Looking to install a woodstove for next winter and need to get some firewood stocked up. If anyone knows where I can get some for cheap/free, I'd appreciate and and all leads. I can cut if it's already down also. Closer to downriver area the better, but can also travel a reasonable distance. Thanks!

i get my wood cut, split and delivered every year for 60$ a face.

its worth it man, cutting wood sucks and the benefit of a wood burner will still pay for its self with you buying wood.

i look at it like this....it will take atleast 10-20$ in fuel to drive and pick it up, you still gotta cut it, split it, and load it...which takes a considerable amount of time and atleast 5$ in fuel and oil.

or this guy will do all the leg work and help you unload it out of his truck and or trailer in your yard or drive way and you dont use any of your time or get dirty even. also no mess to clean up.

his woods already seasoned for the most part too.

That sounds reasonable. I've just heard horror stories about delivered wood being not the full amount, and very wet still. PM me the contact info on your supplier though if you would. I have browsed the forums on this, and I know you know your stuff, so if you say it's good, I'll give it a shot for sure. Thanks

his name is nick, he lives in Carlton. i live close and i order every year..your price maybe a little more depending on location and amount ordered. never had a problem and i'd say i get a little extra even. as far as wet wood goes, he will state that whats newer and whats older usually. sometimes he starts running low on wood and has to give you some that's only a year seasoned. I've never had a burnablity issue at my place though from him. he wont bring your fresh wood he just cut like yesterday if your worried about that. when hes forced to give me the year stuff, i usualy start the fire with the older stuff, then once its hot, i burn the fresher stuff....once the box is hot and you have good coals anything will burn inside...ive cut trees up out back fresh and burned um next day when i run low at the end if i need to. haha

tell him you got his number from Peter in newport. his numbers 734-799-2292

No luck with Nick, he said he's not selling till toward next season/fall if then. I'm really looking for more of the regular wood than pallets. Pallets burn too fast and super hot. Good for fire starting, but not much else. Thanks for all the replies though! Still looking.

most of the trees taken are already dead standing he takes i think so already dry....like i said, never had a problem. give him a call later in the year if ya wanna.

Too bad you're not closer. I get feed wood from a tree service on occasion. Last year I had to cut him off since he was burying me. Keep an eye on craigslist for free wood and let all your friends know you're burning wood. I've scored bunches of wood from family and friends over the years. If you can find a wood lot to cut on that's the way to go. If you're not afraid of pine I can get you enough for your first season right now, it's in Bloomfield though.

You're in the right mind set, get ahead and stay ahead. I try to have 3 years plus put up at all times. Don't count on someone seasoning wood for you, take care of it yourself and know what you have. Your first year or so stay away from Oak,(you can take it just don't count on it being good the first season) it takes at least two years to be decent, I try to give it three. It's getting hard to find ash due to the emerald ash bore but if you can find some it will be decent by fall.

What stoves are you looking at? I'm a bit of a wood snob/stove geek, if you have any questions let me know! I started with a Lopi Endeavor, I'm currently burning a Blaze King Princess.
