Laguna Seca Mustang vs. ZL1 Camaro

All that I get out of this: The Camaro looks like Shit. the LS color Scheme looks like shit, but the Mustang itself is awesome.

The Camaro is certainly impressive, but with 140 more Hp and 170 more lb ft of torque, an IRS and MR shocks, it had BETTER be way faster!! A car that capable in the hands of a Pro might lull a fool into situations he can't get out of. With the BOSS requiring your undivided attention to go fast, I think you're less likely to get too far over your head. Maybe?[/QUOTE

So the worse car is................better?

Sounds like the summary of a review on TG lol

No exactly. But after re-reading.... lol! My point is that in the hands of a Pro driver, the Camaro was really easy to put on the limit, thus REALLY easy to put OVER the limit! The Mustang took more attention to the subtlties of going fast: Braking points and techniques, corner entry, trail braking, exit power application, etc. The Mustang gives you more information and requires more input as you approach the limits, so you're more aware of those limits.... and a little safer for the amatuer driver. Make more sense??

He said it applies power easier. That just means it makes less power... :)

Should be good reading when they compare the blowerstang 650 to the ZL1.

Im sure 5psi on the coyote would have evened things up nicely too.

ZL1 costs a good bit more cash right? Im not up in my new car prices..

The ZL1 has the Performance Torque Management system that the ZR1 has. It has different settings for different driver "comfort" levels. Turn it on to the setting that doesn't interfere with your driving ability and it will allow you to turn as fast of laps as you are going to turn, complete noobie or Jan Magnussen. I'm pretty sure somewhere there's an article about Jan driving the ZR1 with everything turned off and the PTM on and he was faster with the PTM on.

This comparo does nothing for me. The Boss and LS are in a class of their own right now, where GM and Chrysler haven't stepped in to properly give them a challenge.

MT needs to re-do this head to head with the 2013 GT500 and see who does it best. I think the Camaro has the tech bits in the suspension to give it an edge in handling, but the sheer power of the GT500 is impressive. I still think the ZL1 needs a set of better seats in it to make the car better, as well as some interior refinement. They dropped the ball huge inside the Camaro.

The ZL1 interior is a good deal better than the Camaro started out. There's only so much that can be done without a complete over haul but the changes they made were a decent improvement. And at least they got rid of that ridiculous shitty shift knob.

Could you please elaborate on this? Do you mean since a maro SS is about 35k and a ZL1 is about 55k, that there isnt a maro priced at 45k like those stangs at that particular performance level (above an SS but below a Z?)? If so, yea I get that, always good to have options at different price points, and I think those are great cars for under 50k. A lot like the '13 GT500, the maro COULD have something in the works, but it doesn't mean jack until its in the showrooms in the end. However, thats sort of like braggin about getting B's, only the top students get noticed, not the mediocre ones.

Having had 4 different cars from work back to back recently, a 3.7 stang, a 3.6 maro, a 5.0 stang and a 6.2 maro, I can attest all above have shit interiors. I wish they didn't, since having a kid ditching my Z06 in favor of a '13GT500 or a Zl1 is appealing with the backseats, but the thought of sitting in those interiors makes me break out in hives.

You say that in the same breathe as owning a C6? I would argue that the Mustang has a nicer & higher quality interior than even a C6 Z06.

Thats completely personal preference though, and the Z06 is in another level performance-wise even compared to the GT500 and ZL1.

Just out of curiosity, what is it you don't like about the interiors? I've seen the interiors of all of the above and like them all a lot! I admit, I am kind of a knuckle dragger, but damn I can't understand why you'd hate it so bad.

Please stop calling it a "maro"

kthxbye

Anyone knowing what the Boss and ZL1 had going in could tell you the Boss was doomed from the start. I didn't have any expectations that it would hold its own in that test, other than seeing how close lap times were. I knew from the minute I read what was going head to head the ZL1 had the edge. Reminds me of the GM dick flexing about 'Ring times. MT is at least decent enough to run the same driver, same day on the same track. The $14k price differential and 136 hp differential is so favorable to the GM side you'd have to be Richard Bernstein to not notice.

I daily drive an '11 Mustang GT, and the interior far and away is the best of the bunch. The Game Boy-esque radio controls of the Camaro and the bland, flat dash of the Challenger don't do anything for me. If I wanted to sit in a pillbox, I'd join the Army. The Mustang isn't a German quality interior by any stretch, but it has everything in the "right" places, great feel, and is comfortable on trips. If I could, I'd swap a set of GT500 leather Recaro's in my car and never look back.

I don't see anything wrong with the Mustang interior personally. And on the subject of German interiors. I give the 3 series, both E90/92 and F30 a GIGANTIC MEH. But the F30 with that wrinkly wood shit, dear god is that aweful. We were in one at the auto show that had it, car was like a cream color kind of more centrally located in the BMW booth to the left of the 3 series they had in the booth facing BMW with your back to Audi. It's worth finding to laugh at the autrociousness.

and i quote a LS1 guy from 2003 "Bu bu bu ba ba bu bu but but but but bu bu bu but it's got a blower" The ZL1 is a very impressive car but come on! This is not a fair OEM comparison typical of LS fags.. I cant wait to see the outcome of a 2013 Shelby vs. 2013 ZL1.. The ZL1 is going to get crushed in every aspect from quality to performance. Beotches ;)
