We are gearing up for a full kitchen remodel and need some advice for kitchen sinks. We have cabinets picked out and have an idea for counter tops. My wife has decided that she wants a farmhouse sink but is unsure of the material.

copper
cast iron (enameled in any color)
soap stone
composite stone
stainless

Any suggestions?

All have drawbacks... Stainless with develop scratches overtime... Copper gets banged up real easily.. Cast iron Enamaled can chip... And the other 2 have no idea on WTF they are.... I went with Stainless just because it can take a beating and still look halfway decent...

Get a silgranit sink, they are the most durable sink you can get. Blanco is a popular brand. After 5 years ours still looks brand new. All the drawbacks that Reiko mentioned you do not have to worry about with silgranit.

Depends on the use, do you have kids in the house?

I just replaced my cast iron enamel with a good quality stainless, don't
buy the cheapest one either.

My advice is to get a large Undermount single bowl stainless sink. We had a Franke in our old house and loved it. The new house has one of those bowl sinks with the small sink has the disposal. Such a waste we hardly use the large side. If you are talking about farmhouse sink Are you referring to the ones with the front of the sink exposed. Requires a open cabinet of sorts.

Copper is a natrual antiseptic anti-microbial and if your going for a rustic look... just get a hand hammerd one and you dont have to worry about it being banged up.
