Inexpensive place on the Eastside to have a Class D CAR AUDIO amplifier repaired??

I'm not trying to be a dick, I just don't see that as even remotely possible...especially for the date he's claiming he hit that number. And he also said he AVERAGED 163.0db. If you're listening to 163.0db music during cruising, you'll be deaf in a very short time. My Red/Orange Explorer ran an average of 155-157 db when I had the amps set at a level that was tolerable for cruising. With the windows and doors closed, the doors, roof, and sunroof would still flex and bounce, and you'd feel sick to your stomach, but at least you could barely tolerate it. Not nearly as bad when the windows were open (due to the pressure not building up in the vehicle) but it still hurt to sit inside and listen to when the volume was up. And from 157-160db there is a WORLD of different. I don't see his claim being even remotely close. I can believe 136.0, but not 163.0.

To kind of give you non-audiophiles/non-bassheads perspective on what he's saying, he's basically saying he ran the 1/4 in 7.xx in a daily driven street car 8 years ago.

By the way, what head unit were you running at the time? I had a Kenwood Excelon MASK KD-911 which was the head unit with the SINGLE BEST shock sensor in it for the time. For competitions I had to slide the deck out of the dash and put it on pillows stacked 3 high to keep it from skipping due to how bad my dashboard bounced...and that truck was as solid as they come...especially after all the work we did to it to make it that way.

is 1db an increase in volume of twice as loud If I remember correctally?
It's more the higher you go. there's a small difference from 120-121, but a huge difference from say 164-165db. I'd love to give you a better, more specific answer, but I don't have one for you.

Figure it this way, though...

It's a lot cheaper, and easier, to run a 12.9 from 13.0 then it is to run a 6.9 from 7.0 in the quarter. That's probably the easiest way to break it down into simple terms.

:dontknow:

I was never into loud I was a sq guy I still have most of My image dyunamics and Mcintosh stuff. I have a dash for a s10 with a set of HLCD mounted into it

And you're 26 now? I call big time BS!!! 163.0db was an almost unheard of number for a competition car let alone a DD 8+ years ago. There's a big difference between 160.8 db and 163 db. When was the meter calibrated? Who did the drag? What meter was it? Where was the meter mounted? How did the subs face? etc.

:bsflag: :bs: :bsflag: :bs: :bsflag: :bs: :bsflag: :bs: :bsflag: :bs: :bsflag: :bs: :bsflag: :bs:

You can call all the bs you want lol...Ill post up the pics tonight....I know how much 163db's is...I was in the game for a while when i was younger.

Of coarse it was calibrated. Kenwood did one, and i know circut city did a couple. i used to go to Dayton cruisefest every year in ohio and i won at that one before. Shit back then Norma Gates with her bronco was the loudest i think at like 168 or 170 or something crazy like that....

Call me out all day long...i know how loud my shit was...lmao... i worked for Mickey Shorre then....all my shit was cheap for me...lol

I get that. And there are a BIG differences between the two types of set ups. If you listen to a truck like I had you were like, "Wow, this is painful, loud and clear as hell." If you then listened to a competition SQ car you were like, "HOLY FUCK! I have never heard clarity like this before. It's almost as if all the music is coming from right in front of me on the windshield...but this car could use a LOT more bass."

SQ = Imaging
SPL = Sound pressure and overall loudness

Yes, in 1999 Alma was in the 168-170 range...in a full size Bronco with bullet proof glass windshield that was reinforced with metal every 1.5 feet or so, concrete filled body panels, floor, boxes, etc, no drivetrain, and enough amps and subwoofers to sink a carrier ship. So yes, I am still calling BS. :bs: :D

Funny you mention your place of employement. I worked for ABC Warehouse at the time (same owner, Gordy Artunian) and I too got all my shit at cost. Hell, Kenwood even sent me on that one trip to Las Vegas 1 year for the CES show for being the top Kenwood sales person in the entire 33 store chain. :D

an average from competitions...not an average of what i listened to everyday...i would never listen to it that loud all the time......trsut me if i hit 136 with 4 15"s i would have killed myself.....i know what im talking about....

back in 99 the dr crankestein van hit 165 with a wall of ten's. so 163 for 4 15"s facing up out of a 2 door explorer is not that out of the question.

Actually i ran the the same panasonic head unit that i have in my ram today...i bought it when mickey shorre first started carring panasonic. i bought it for shits and giggles and i have still have it to this day...i used an audio control 3.1 processor so i could listen to the music at any range i wanted to at any time...

actually it was 64 10" fosgates or orions i believe. not sure about the brand but i know it was 64 tens. thats why she did all the glass and cemente work in order to make 64 tens hit 170db.

Had you told me that you ran the subs facing the the sides of the truck (2 on each side) I would have put a tiny bit of faith in your claim. But to tell me that you hit 163 with upward facing subs makes it even harder to believe. We made 4 different boxes for the X I had and I gained alsmost a full DB by facing them to the right and left then when I had them facing backward. Having the 4 12's facing up gave me the lowest of the 4 boxes. Why? Because you don't get enough reflex off the roof when you're that far from it. Other than the Cerwin Vega Stroker, how many competition SPL cars do you see with upwatrd facing subs? Not many, and those who do don't do as well.

By the way, I have sent 3 of my buddies' cars to IASCA. ;) The first was a Black Toyota (Corolla I think) hatchback with a wall of subs right behind the front seats. No rear seats, not nothing. Just subs and amps. I have been doing this a day or two. ;) :D

Right...64 subwoofers. And the amps powering them. The cement and glass weren't just to hit a high db, it was also to keep all that built up pressure in when the truck wanted to rip apart at the seems.

think about it...try facing four 15"s in any direction than up and you wouldnt be able to see out of the back window. trust me i tried every possible way....

we can argue till were blue in the face....im not doubting that you know your shit but im telling you what i hit on more than one occasion...

most of your db cars have the subs facing the front of the vehicle not on the side. its air pressure your after not sound. you'll get more putting the mic in front of the sub than in any other way.

excatly so they can hit a higher db...thats the only way you hit db is by sealing off the vehicle...

Yes, you're after pressure, and pressure builds up in smaller spaces. Hence the placing of the subs facing each side of the car. (picture the magnets being back to back, and 2 subs on each side...not tall)

And by the way, the db mic is supposed to on the windshield because that's the last place the bass reflects off of since the subs are mounted in the back of a vehicle.

Let's not argue, let's dance!!!
