Improper lane usage ticket WTF

I believe he said he could only turn in the right turn lane. Is he supposed to sit there eternally blocking the turn lane or just never get out period?

It would not turn into a game of chicken if drivers weren't complete and total morons and realized that no, your penis does not in fact get any smaller, if you allow a person with a turn signal on to get in front of you. Trust me, I learned to drive at the British School of Motoring. I've driven extensively on both continents. The way it goes down here is stupid, inefficient and the product of a bizarre and irrational sense of wounded pride by letting people get over.

The problem is on both ends.

Some people won't let u over...

But some people don't get over when they can, they fly up to the front trying to merge at the last second.

If u show you are trying to get over then I'll let u in. But if I'm sitting at the beginning of where the merge ends, and I see u flying up just to pass traffic, f u.

Most people in this country SUCK at merging. That's allowing people in and actually merging yourself.

I agree. I won't let people in if it is up towards the front of where the lane ends and they flew up there or even rode all the way up in that lane, because seriously how can you not see signs and the giant orange arrows that are sometimes quite a while before the lane ends. If it is where people are just starting to merge over I let people in...cause that is how merging should work. I just can't stand when someone is a douche and rides the lane all the way up. They are the ones causing issues with the merging.

Welcome to being part of the problem.

Why is that how merging should work? Should 2+2=5 because that's better? The methodology of merging should be use all the available tarmac and then take turns allowing cars to merge because that's how it works most efficiently. Call it the zipper method or whatever you want, but that's how it works best and as long as people stick to it traffic moves much faster. The moment one irrationally butt hurt numbnuts starts the "oh no not me uh uh you ain't gettin in front" shit is when the system falls to pieces.

I literally can't understand how people can think that people slowing to a crawl trying to get over 1/2 a mile before a merge point would cause less of a traffic backup than merging at the actual merge point. Actually I can, and that's because we have the weakest, most pathetic driver training system in the developed world. I rue that first drive back up 94 after spending a couple weeks driving in Germany...

Umm...I don't slow to a crawl to get over. You get over BEFORE the other lane ends. It is the people waiting until the last minute to get over when everyone else is already in the correct lane that cause the problem, because you have to stop to let them in.

It is 100% not the people that wait until the end to get over that cause the problem. Studies repeatedly show that the "zipper merge" reduces traffic backups as much as 40%. I've lived with both methodologies. The way people do it here is stupid, and it doesn't work.

Assume the lines each have one hundred cars in them. If you shuffle merge at the last point, everything is even.

But you, being the eager beaver that you are, moved over somewhere a mile before that point. Now line 1 has 101 cars in it, and line 2 has only 99. Because you’ve been in the line for awhile, when you get to the front, you have to let someone from line 2 shuffle merge in front of you, meaning that two cars got over from 1 to 2 in the space where only one should have. Plus, though, the guy who let you in now has to let another person in. That’s three! Three cars where only one would otherwise have merged.

It doesn’t take a lot of early movers before lane 2 is emptying out faster than water bucket at the OK corral.
