Ticket 80 in 70

So I searched the forum a bit to see what kind of advise there was, but I have more questions.

Got wrote up 80 in a 70 in a freeway. I called the court and its 1point and $110 fine.

I don't really care, cop was doing his job whatever its not about that.

My questions are as follows.

They don't do any differed judification or will drop it to a parking ticket over the phone. The location where I got the ticket is 2-3 hours from my house. I don't really want to drive there to fight this in person, my time is seemingly worth more. Do I have any other options?

Now how much will my insurance go up? I'm not used to this money racket here. I think I'm going to sell all my cars to my out of state LLC and avoid all Michigan Registration and Insurance bullshit. This state is almost as bad as the loony toon bull crap NYS has. Why does my insurance care if I get a ticket, I didn't cost them any money. Historically my driving record as far as claims should dictate my rates.

Points system, how exactly does that work? If you get 12 points in 2 years they just suspend your DL? I might be without a DL here soon lol. Good thing you can easy get a new one out of state lol.

Blah

Cliffs:
I don't want to take a day off of work and drive for 6 hours to fight a ticket in court. What is my most economical solution?

Don't forget that insurance points and SOS points are not the same.

You basically have two options - either accept and pay the ticket, or ask for a court date & show up & they *may* decide to change the offense to something that cost more $ but no points. Question is whether it's worth you losing an entire day in drive time + court time.

Pleading guilty with letter explanation is just a waste of effort. You'll simply get a bill for the full ticket amount + points.

Speeding is a tough one to justify an explanation for and have it dropped. Did he write you for 80 in a 70 to do you a favor or were you actually going 80? I know that sometimes if you are doing 15 over (lets say) they will drop it to 5 over. Still get the fine but no points.

The MI SOS will send you an option to pay *up to* $100 to do a driver improvement course online or classroom. They will drop the point and not notify your insurance provider.

i would suggest you call your insurance agent and talk to him about it.. i am 100% sure he would be ok with talking to you about it.. lol

I did the class for the last speeding ticket I got.

I got one in toledo on the turnpike and while it is normally 2 points, they do not issue points for some reason and your insurance doesn't get notified.

Option 3. Hire an attorney that is familiar with the district that you were ticketed in. Pay the attorney and tell him to make it go away.

If you do call your insurance agent ask him about high risk insurance in MI. I think it's anything over 6 points (Insurance Points) and your
rates go up, way up.

read up about three posts ;) he is no where near high risk at this moment

Understood and I agree with your at the moment comment but tickets seem to always come in pairs or more. When you get one, it seems like there is another just around the corner.

In the original post he asked about insurance points in MI. Also it sounded like he wasn't slowing down anytime soon. So better to fight this and have it
off his record now. Three years (I think for insurance points) is a long time and a lot can happen.
It only takes a couple of tickets to be considered high risk and then its $hitsville for rates especially if you own a car that you want to drive.

Pretty much every jurisdiction now lets you show up and plead it down to impeding traffic, which is a fine but no points. I would just suck it up and do it. In the long run you will come out much better.

The State points may only be one, but I can guarantee the insurance points will be at least two. And it will stay on your insurance record at least three years. Those two points are typically a 20% surcharge on your collision coverage. Say just the collision coverage is $400, that raises your rates $80 every six months until the points drop off.
