I'd say 90% of us agree here...

Oil prices are based on world supply and demand, it doesn't matter where it's sold, more oil means cheaper gas.

Not always. Ever notice how fuel prices can spike upwards within a matter of hours after the price/barrel makes even a minute jump, while when the price/barrel drops, you don't see it at the pump right away, or even ever. Supply and demand certainly have something to do with it, but much is political and based on futures. The fuel in the ground at your local station is paid for, so how can its price fluctuate so much, and so frequently? Producers can manufacture fictitious demand and control oil prices by controlling the supply. I'm sure there are laws against things like that, but I am also sure that it happens. There are so many variables that influence what we pay at the pump. Gas futures are an interesting bit as well - effecting price, supply, etc. I still don't understand most of it.

Anybody know when we'll start getting summer blended gas again? I'd like to get those 5+mpg back.

. I really noticed a big drop in mileage in the focus when everything switched over to winter blend. I'm ready for summer too.

I understand all that, however when it comes down to it, all the speculation is based on the supply and demand. War in the middle east...could cause a shortage. China joining the 21st Century, more demand. Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico or ANWAR...more supply

More supply to the US, definitely. Is it true that the largest reserve of crude in the world is in Alaska? I wasn't sure if that was the case, or if I was making that up in my head.

Again, it's nothing against you personally...I don't even know who you are. I just don't like when people are not willing to admit they made a mistake and when they've said that someone else (who was actually telling the truth) was wrong, especially in the face of overwhelming evidence. But yeah, made my point...you have a good one, too.

Make sure you never talk to my wife then...

Here's my first one.

It's funny to read all these articles out there about gas prices and the reasoning behind increases. I've read so many over the years just so I could see what kind of bullshit reasoning people can come up with. There's no answer for it except for greed. Some say it's because the economy is bad, it's because the economy is good, it's because demand is up, it's because people don't drive as much, it's because oil prices are high, it's because refineries are charging too much, it's because we can't drill here, it's because we endanger wildlife elsewhere.... why can't someone just say it and write it's because everyone is a greedy fuck and there's nothing that will be done about it.

FWIW

$4-5/gallon annoys me, but it won't stop me from driving my SUV.

I popped down into northern Kentucky earlier this week. Round trip the fuel bill in my Tahoe (16.5 MPG highway) was ~$150. Had I flown it would have been $500 for air fair, another $50-60 to park at the airport + another $150-200 for a rental car.

Do high gas prices suck - yeah - of course - is it the end of the world - no, not at all.

I'm in Cincinnati today, and because I go to MSU, I rarely drive anywhere. Anyhow, i was shocked to pay $3.99 for 87 octane in A^2 yesterday. And because it's the shit, winter mix still, I only got a hair over 26mpg on the previous tank. In the summer doing the same trip, I can manage nearly 35. Hopefully I can hit 30mpg on the return trip.

It's March and we're already at $4 a gallon. Can't wait for summer, so much for going boating. Glad I can get 35mpg out of my car.

wow another political ploy. gas prices in 2008 were at the all time high of 4.21 a gallon under which leadership?

If you don't think gas prices are going to blow $4.21 away, you're...probably suggtt48116. $3.85 in Royal Oak this morning in February. Last year, between February and June the average went up over $.80 cents.

Now that gas prices are most likely going to cross the $4.50 mark this summer (in some states $5) the President, of course, has nothing to do with it! This despite his own Secretary of Energy explicitly stating “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

Fucking clowns.

Allow me to be the first to say...

$4.39 this morning in Romulus. Prices forecast to continue rising through the end of May. Metro Detroit average for 87 probably around $4.50.

This morning in Metro:

Bush! Would you please turn the oil price dial down from "Ultra high"????

Wow. We're over .50 cheaper than you guys. normally we're 10 maybe 15 cheaper. Wonder what happened up there.

I love the fact that the price of gas can be set buy (futures). Last time I checked no one can predict the future, is this a group of people that have a magical crystal ball or something? The market should decide the price and that should be set on the same day not trying to predict the future. That is were the problem is. These guys will come up with anything to raise the price of gas, If some old lady sharted in Missouri it will affect the gas price and how much the refineries can produce. LOL
