I am Leaving This Board..

And we can help those people by closing all the dead threads.

I agree on that!

The bashing does get pretty old quick, but just stay out of the threads and it's better. That's why my bro doesn't come on here often, he says it's not like it used to be with "the old crowd"

I will work on closing older threads but preserving them in case people need to reference them.

To address your specific concerns with the value add of the board, I agree with you. The board has gone spiraling out of control. For a while, I stopped posting because it was nothing but stress for me. I only recently started posting and it was only to argue, because frankly, I enjoy arguing with people.

The biggest obstacle is maintaining balance between freedom of speech and personal respect. A lot of times, the mods look like bad guys because they have to put a stop to something and everyone calls them Nazi mods and what not. It does not give someone incentive to police the board if all they will get out of it is verbal attacks. It also does not give people incentive to help the Club if all they do is get attacked. A lot of the mods do actually put time and money into running the Club, even if you do not see it.

We have been working on implementing an infraction system. My guess is that I need to speed up that process and get it into place sooner rather than later. While the infraction system may seem "Nazi"sh, it will ultimately help define the line between having an argument with someone and crossing personal boundaries. It's very easy to cross personal lines when you're heated, I can understand it and I am guilty of it myself. The important thing is that you learn from your mistakes. The infraction system will amount to a point system. Every time you cross one of the lines, you get a point. Get enough points and there is an automatic vacation in it for you. No more mods handing out bans except for extreme circumstance.

We will attempt to give more leeway on freedom of speech, but with freedom of speech comes responsibility. You will not repeatedly cross the personal respect boundaries on this board and you will not rip off innocent people. Those are the lines that I will personally draw, regardless of anything else that happens. The good news is that with the infraction system, you will not get an instant ban. You will earn your ban. We all get out of line once or twice, and that's fine, you can take a chill pill, apologize and that will be that. But if you can't control yourself enough that you keep doing it, you have no business being here.

So Gary, please stay. Please feel free to voice your concerns to me directly. We will do what it takes to maintain personal respect around here and we will do what it takes to clean up the forums.

I don't pay all this money in hosting costs so a bunch of people can be treated like shit and not feel comfortable visiting the board. The club has done far too many good things for its members to just throw it all away. Michigan and this country is going to go through some rough times and I will not allow the board to become a breeding ground for hate. We should be there to support each other, not beat each other with sticks.

Wow. Very well said Brandon.

I thnk that's the longest post you have ever had

If your skin isnt thick enough to take a tongue lashing on a web board, you shouldnt be on here in the first place!

Sometimes it amounts to a little bit more then just on the forum...

A lot of members including myself have really acted out of line lately. When I first joined Motown used to be a laid back place where everyone can shoot the shit the tongue lashing were far and few between and lately it has came to be a weekly issue with things being said that are beyond crossing the line.

Best advice I've been given is think twice before you post a response or if your heated just take a deep breath and roll that chair back from the keyboard and click Start>Turn Off Computer

But I think you have to agree...."your looking at a computer screen" dont get pissed, turn the damn thing off and log on later. There is not 1 thing that anyone could TYPE that would hurt me in a way to never come on here again (or go home and slit my wrists).

Well see the thing is this is not like alot of other forums where you might only meet 1 or 2 members in the time your a member on the site. 98 percent of the members on this board reside in SE Michigan which means a majority of members have the opportunity to attend events. Although some of us have our arguments through our computer screens when we get together we always seem to squash the beef and have a good time.

Also if your free Thursday evening you should attend the MM monthly meeting at B-dubs in Novi!!!

Thanks

Maybe I've grown numb to the abuse on the board, but I dont see it that way. I see a bunch of car enthusiasts that are just like the military. Whe I was in we would bash and fight each other. That is untill one of our own was attacked by an outsider then we banded together like we were epoxied.

I see incredible support when: Ryan and steph were in an accident. When Bill had an intestinal infection. When someone needs help with a car. Support of members with new busnesses. I see people giving support for new members even if their project isent for everyones taste. I see honest opinions.

Unfortunaly sometimes the bickering can get a bit out of control, but I'm willing to bet that come track rental day the hatchet will be burried.

Agreed :)

I will attend a meeting before joining. I work a shift that is in conflict with most of the meetings that are called. (5pm to 1:30 am.) I have meet a number of the members on woodward this summer and even helped out a few when I could and offered my garage to anyone who needed it for a couple of hours. I just think unless you screw someone out of money, nobody would carry over a board dispute to a meeting in person. Maybe im wrong....
