Help! Anyone a Jaguar expert or work for Jaguar?

Paul and I just bought a new car....a black Jaguar XJ8...yeay!

Anyways, the seat belt chime drives me nuts! There's no info in the manual on how to disable it, nobody on the Jaguar forums knows how to disable it, I can't find anything anywhere about disabling it, and of course the dealership won't disable it due to liability reasons or whatever.

So, does anyone here know how to disable it? Maybe someone (or someone that knows someone) works for Jaguar that would know how to disable it?

Any help would be soooo much appreciated. Thanks!!

Lisa =)

Btw, I really don't need a seatbelt lecture...it's just when I go to get my mail, etc...

Again....thanks!

it's a ford... google how to disable it on a ford, and I'll betcha it is the same technique.

I used to know how to do a ford, but that was years ago.

You can Deactivate the Belt Minder two ways. First, you can deactivate it temporarily for your current "run cycle", that is after you have started your car and it's still running. Second, you completely deactivate the Belt Minder so that it never reminds you again, or at least until your reactivate it...

The first method, temporary deactivation, or one time disable: After you have started your vehicle, buckle and then un-buckle your safety belt. Be sure to buckle back up.... This will disable the Belt Minder only for that ignition cycle.

The second method, permanent deactivation: There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:
The parking brake is set.
The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
The ignition is OFF.
All doors are closed.
The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
The parking and headlights are OFF.
Then follow these 9 steps:

Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!

Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.

Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.

Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.

Lol, you won't see me walking to get my mail in this cold weather...even though I can see my mail box from the window. :emb:

Thanks for the info wikdsvt I'll try that tomorrow. Yeah Ford pretty much left Jaguar alone. Maybe hopefully not the seat belt chime though? Lol

I haven't taken any pics yet, but I'll try to get some before the weekend. Btw, it's an 07.

you could try buckling up, thats sure to turn it off. And nice rubbing it in that youd bought a 70k+ car

im a technician at jag of troy, and due to it being a safety issue i do no think you will be able to have the chime disabled when driving over 10mph with it unbuckled.

ill find out tomorrow though

did you get the vdp?

Bahaha, ok....seatbelt police! I wasn't rubbing in anything.

I never said a price and I only put a year after Al asked. Why would you have a problem with what I buy anyways? You don't know me. And the people that do know me know that I'm not like that. Thats not a good way to go through life. Funny, when others have nice things I'm always happy for them.

Thank you so much for checking on that...very much appreciated!

What's a vdp? Is that the extended one? Haha, I'm obviously not a Jaguar expert yet. :emb:

I don't care what you buy, the post just sounds like I bought this expensive ass car and I don't know how to work all the goodies

No, I don't think thats what it sounds like. All I was asking was about a seat belt chime...and I wouldn't consider a seat belt chime a "goodie." I think thats standard equipment on even the cheapest car sold in the us now.
