HD Channel Question

So we finally upgraded to a big boy TV.. (LG Flatscreen) We have ATT for cable provider and just have the normal 200 package with Internet.

Finally got it hooked up and the channels are not clear like I thought they would be. Went to a couple HD channels and they were crisp and clear.

So my question is, Do I have to upgrade cable?? I have checked setting and the ones I see are all good. I tried to go into the 1000 (ie 1002) range of channels and says I am not subscribed to that..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

So your regular channels are not clear and the HD channels are nice and crisp? I don't see what the problem is. A regular (non HD) channel stretched out over a large TV screen is going to look like crap.

ATT uverse non HD channels are garbage. Its kinda bull shit because it basically forces you to buy the HD package with the 1000 channel ranges

You have to upgrade your cable if you want the cable networks in HD. As it is now, all of the big networks broadcast in HD free (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS, etc), but the cable companies extract every penny possible by making you pay much more for compressed "HD" video. Compressed video (or HD as the cable companies call it) is inferior to true HD. By saying that, I'm implying that OTA (over the air) HDTV is of superior quality than anything you can get from your ISP/cable company. OTA TV isn't compressed, you get the real deal. What you get with these cable subscriptions is a picture that resembles HD in resolution only, but the compression of the signal deteriorates the overall quality. In the end, it's up to you or not if it's worth it. Similarly, this is the reason I refuse to purchase MP3s, because essentially, I'm paying more ($1+ each per track) for quality far inferior to what I get on the retail CD (lossless, full quality).

Yea. The TV image is only going to be as good as the signal that it's being fed. You'll need an HD box to get the HD channels

Ok, I will have to look into it..

They seemed a lot more crisp and clear in the store.. lol

Yea they have signs at Costco and SAMs now that says you must have HD receiver to get this picture clarity. I'm sure a lot of people bought a big screen and connected they're coax cable straight to the back and said WTF! Lol.

I have the ATT DVR Box with the HDMI cable hooked up to the back of the TV. Also, have a new LG Blu Ray box that I haven't used yet.

Can't speak on your DVR, but your blu Ray will definitely display what you're expecting.
