Geothermal through DTE?

It's already been running for the last few weeks, in that pic you can see the propane line cut. The electrical is to get the cheap electric rates.

This has been a really good project to follow.
Thank you for posting it & please show us the
complete system once its up & running.

I see, I see says the blind man!

Would love to know some of the cost savings
when you have enough info to report.

Thanks again, cool project!

Yup, I can just about power anything now.

Here are a few pics, ignore the mess since I haven't gotten to the
clean up phase of the installation yet. This will all look familiar to lightning jeff since that's who I bought everything from. I couldn't afford the 24 grand that a lot of contractors want for geo so I was forced to do it budget style (by myself). Everything currently works as it should and the house has remained at the set temp. The aux heat will only turn on if the temp gets below 10F or so.

So does this mean more power for your tools too?

I don't know the exact monthly rate with propane but if I had to guess I probably used 250 gallons between dec 15th and january 15th which comes to around $500 for a 30 day period I'd guess. That bill would probably be $300 if it was a natural gas bill. The last fill up was $897 for 433 gallons. I really like living out in the wooded area but it comes with its price.

It's the only way to go but the high initial cost is the reason you don't see many people doing it.

What do you figure your cost to investment return is?
(how many years to recoup in savings your set up cost)

How do (%) think you'll do with this investment with resale?

I'm not sure how much geothermal adds to a value of a home buy payback will be somewhere around 3 years for me I believe.

I am installing Geo in my new house as we speak, closed loop system. Massive 5 ton and 4 ton furnaces, 9 TOTAL tons of geo and two loops - woohoo!

Wow, how much is all that going to cost you? It has to be in the $60k+ range.

I'm sure you know as well as everyone else that has propane that it's not cheap and totally unpredictable. In 5 years who knows what propane is going to be. $5 a gallon in the next 10 years isn't out of the question.

That is great!

They finished! If you look at the pic they put a lockout tag on the left meter even though there are jumper bars giving me free electricity. I thought that was pretty funny.
