Ford guys: Differences between 8.8 and 9" for daily-driver usage

I could have sworn that it was risky to reuse because they would have already established wear patterns and it was difficult to set them up exactly the same when reinstalled, especially if they didn't come from the same housing.

Once a gear has been run (and broke in) you cannot re set a pattern or change the pattern on it. All you can do is run the original pinion shim & set lash.... nothing wrong with doing this... they end up quiet. Keep in mind new ford oe gears are cheap. Housings are cheap also.... craigslist, FB, Motown.... someone will be scrapping one for cheap.

I was going to go this route when I had my trans am. I was told and had saw to many issues with the TA mount breaking on the 8.8. The issue isn't making a 8.8 hold power it's getting that mount to stay on.

I have put literally 2000hp to an 8.8 before it finally bent up, but when it did, it was in an area that a stock 9" housing would have anyhow. They can be built to be very tough.

This is the mount I would be using, the "hiltsy" mount:

So far people seem to be having good luck with them. Some have proposed bolt-on solutions however no one offers them for sale and for my goals I don't think I need anything fancy.
