fitness people- who is still making progress?

I eat apples and oatmeal every day. I just tend to over eat when I make a plate of pasta or something similar. I think I have a gluten allergy though, because I always feel like utter shit after eating anything starchy or loaded with carbs. I have a bunch of brown rice, quinoa and brown rice pasta in the pantry, but I pretty much quit eating it. Maybe I'll start again, but only very small portions.

These are typical lunches for me:

Throughout the day I snack on raisins, plums, raw almonds + soybean nuts. I'll make a protein drink sometimes in the late afternoon or early morning. Unsweetened plant protein powder, almond butter, a banana and a squirt of agave nectar. That usually keeps me feeling full. I noticed a protein deficiency for a couple of weeks after reducing the amount of eggs I was eating. So I did a little research and compensated.

My issue with carbs is that they usually make me feel shitty after eating. But again, that could be due to the amount I tend to eat. Quitting cold turkey makes it easy to control portion sizes. I'll do a little bit of reading though.

When I used to eat brown rice I would feel like crap. I found out it's because it contains pieces of the rice that are hard to digest and can cause an uncomfortable stomach, which I noticed in myself. It made me feel full also, whereas white rice did not.

Pasta makes me feel like crap as well. That's not a good carb.

That is not correct. Just because its a simple carb doesn't make it bad, it's definitely no brown rice but I've had good luck with pasta in my bulk diet.

I have been making very good progress but I would never hear the end of it from Saso and 91Trunk if I put pictures on here.

^^^Great carb to slam post training.

It depends on what type of pasta you are eating. And to my knowledge pasta is not a simple carb but I could be wrong.

I always thought it was a complex carb, I just don't like it.

If you see gains with it then by all means eat it up.

The issue is that I'm not trying to gain. I'm trying to lose fat.

Can I ask how tall you are???

The problem with dieting for long amounts of time like you have, is it slows down the metabolism. I would increase calories just a little bit daily, maybe 200 calories. Your weight will go up, but your body will adjust and the weight will come back down. Once the weight is back to normal, increase again. Follow that pattern as long as your body weight settles back around to it's normal. Once the calories are up, go into another slight deficit to lose the remaining.

And since metabolism is a product of muscle, if you get in the gym a few days a week, even if only 45 mins or so, it will greatly aid in the stomach you mentioned.

5'8".

See, I'm not exactly sure what's going on with me right now. I don't have a scale handy while at school, and I feel as though I've begun to put on a little bit of muscle mass the last couple of weeks. I'm not really sure if I'm still losing body fat as rapidly as I was previously. I guess I'll just pay closer attention and go from there.

135 lbs is awful light for 5'8" in my opinion. I think if you just started lifting 3-4 days a week, it would take care of the areas you want addressed, and fill you out at the same time. Plus, you'll be able to consume more calories! Seems win-win to me!

I think that depends on a persons genetics and body content.

Many boxers are 5'8 and fight at lightweight (135 limit). Tommy Hearns was 6'1 and fought at 147 pounds at his best.

Depends on the individual. While 135 may be light for some, it may not be for him.

Those boxers are usually ripped to shreds as well. Not an apples to apples comparison.

That was just an analogy but you ignored my argument.

You did not address my original statement that id depends on a persons genetics and body content. Do you disagree with that?

I was aware of the argument presented. Genetics govern most facets of body composition, that's a given. That said, there are ways around everything. 135 lbs for a height of 5'8" is considered light for most modern day males, even genetically. Most would agree on that.

But this is not the point, and I'm not trying to pick on my fellow Statie Lucky7. I'm just trying to offer possible insight on how to fill out his frame and address his stomach area he mentioned, at the same time. "Multiple birds, one stone" in this situation.

"Results:
According to your height of 5' 8" your ideal healthy weight is 147 pounds. Your recommended weight range is between 131 and 164 pounds.

This was calculated using Hamwi formula, a simple formula commonly used by many clinicians.

These are recommended weights. Talk with your doctor about what weight is best for you and before undertaking any new diet or exercise programs."

To say it is light for most males may be true, but each individual is so vastly different that I don't think if a person is 5'8 and 135 they are automatically light. He looks very healthy in his pics and carries the weight like an average guy I'd say.

Lol Fuck that ideal weight Shit in that case I would have to weigh 180 pounds I would look like a fucking crack head......

Exactly my point. That formula is nearly 50 years old and was originally published in the ADA. Ideal weight formulas don't hold much weight in my eyes, again in my opinion as all my posts in this thread have been.

But he does not look like a crack head and carries the weight fine.

I could see if he looked skinny but he appears to be average and if I saw him I would not say "Wow that guy is skinny."

I am not sure of why you believe he needs to gain weight.

This goes back to what was mentioned earlier about using the mirror and not the scale, because scales can be deceiving. The number on the scale means nothing if what you see is what you want.

I agree 135 at 5'8 is too thin. Lucky you need to get some muscle mass on and unfortunately hit the gym, it's the best way trust me. I have been giving folks advice at my previous gym, even women on many occasions. Women would say "I just want to get tone so I don't want to lift weights." I would tell them " well enjoy the cellulite girl" sorry but that's just the way it is. Lifting is key, you just have to find the right workout for what you are wanting to accomplish.

I would highly recommend visiting www.muscleandstrength.com this is a great site to use for anyone interested in making gains and progress.

I just ran the ideal weight calculator on myself and here is what i

According to your height of 6' 0" your ideal healthy weight is 165 pounds. Your recommended weight range is between 147 and 183 pounds.

The recommended weight range was between 147 and 183. Obviously 147 a little on the thin side, but as you can see from my before picture, I was about 155, similar to Lucky7 being 135 with the low side being 131 on the ideal weight scale and 147 on the low end for me.

From my picture, I was not "sickly" thin, but that was my normal body weight. If I eat normal, that is how I look, and while it is thin, it is not "too thin" or unhealthy as you guys are claiming. It is just our natural weight. unless you mean it is "not aesthetic" that is another story but then that comes down to opinion, as some people like to have a thin look.

My point is simply his body type carries 135 and he carries it normally. While the user above may look like a crackhead weighing 180, he does not look sickly at 135 and I do not look sickly at 155.

And in the example I used with boxers, these are top conditioned athletes. De La Hoya is 5'10 and would fight at 135, and if anything that is even worse because he was dense muscle.

It all depends on the body. Then you have a guy with a bone structure and build like Mike Tyson where every inch of his genetics is thick, so his neck is 22", his chest is wide, his shoulders, calves, hams, etc.. are all very dense and thick, he would look sickly at 170 but he is only about 5'10, whereas DLH is 5'10 as well and would be fat at 170.

It depends on the individual. I do not think your argument holds any merit that because he is 5'8 135 is too thin.
