Anyone ever do this before?
What type of cleaner did you use, where available, results?

I took the VC off my 2.3t today, it appears to have been owned by Pablo Escobar by seeing the amount of coke under there.
Scraped a lot out, shoveled out what I could, but would like to get it better.
Not removing the head, not removing the engine from the car, yet....

I've heard people say seafoam and stuff like that, I've heard good and bad stuff.
So I'd like to know what results you have had, not your uncles cousins brothers best friends neighbor buddy who builds race engines...

Had a 2000 Toyota beater with a 2.2 with 175k had to pull the engine and trans together to replace the trans and I re gasketed the motor and did the timing belt it was the same as you described, I scraped out what I could then filled it all the way up with kerosene and let it sit full to the rim for 2 days and then drained it and flushed with cheap oil and filters. It was sparkling and I sold it to my dad and he has over 300k on it now.

I dumped in a quart of ATF today.
Still fighting a leak I need to fix, turbo supply line.
Sometime I may actually get this thing drivable. :(
Thanks for the info
