Ecoboost F150 ppl come inside

Anyone ever go from a F250 to the eco boost? I have a 99 F250 7.3 and it has been the best truck I ever owned for towing. I know the eco boost (and the 5.0) have comparable numbers to the 7.3 (300hp/500tq) but does the 150 eco boost really compare to the old diesel in real life, especially after 100,000 miles?

In a word no. I have a '13 5.0 truck. This is the second 5.0 I have had. It tows my 24 ft enclosed without any issues. I've never felt like it wasn't enough truck. But it is certainly not like towing with the '97 F350 7.3 truck I had back in the day.

You guys that drive 1/2 ton trucks 40 miles one way are nuts. Buy a beater that gets 30+mpg. Your fuel savings alone will damn near make your truck payment. I drive 100 miles a day in a 40mpg bomber, and save the wear and tear on my superduty. If you are looking for mpgs out of a pickup, then you are looking at the wrong vehicle

You'd be surprised about the payoff. Buying another vehicle to offset the cost of an inefficient one is rarely worth it.

There is more to it than mpg's, things like insurance, tabs, & additional maintenance that often go uncalculated.

I guess it depends how you go about it. I typically have my nice truck (paid for), my mustang(paid for) that I tinker with and enjoy on MY time, and then I drive an economy car to work daily to rack up the miles and allow it to take the wear and tear of Michigan roads. The car I drive now gets 35-40mpg running just about 90 miles a day. So lets say gas is 3.75 a gallon. Thats about a $50 bill a week to get to work. Now lets say I drive my 15mpg truck to work all week. Assuming fuel is the same price, that 112.50 a week. Thats 62.50 more in just fuel a WEEK. That's $3250 in fuel savings in one year. Lets say the 'economy car' cost you $60 a month for PLPD insurance. $720 a year, subtract that from the $3250 and you get $2530 in your pocket. Add that up over a few years and you are ahead of the game, plus your $40,000 truck stays nice and the value retained is higher when it comes time to upgrade to the next latest and greatest vehicle. Makes sense to me

Aside from the driving a POS part sounds great.

Well said brian!!

I don't plan on the ecoboost doing everything my 7.3 superduty can do. I just don't use my superduty like I did when I bought it. Carry the kids around and to and from work. I used it twice this winter to go snowmobiling and threw my sled in the back of the truck. It's in good shape, and it's worth good money. I figure let someone else enjoy it. I've had my fun, and it's time to move onto the next.

Now the tough part is going to be not modifying the ecoboost. Not sure I won't be able to.

All the eco boosts in the trucks get shit mileage I test drive for Roush and 15-18 is average can't get much better... hell the diesel is getting better mileage

Very good but they void the warranty with a tune. I wish they didnt truck has alot of potential

could you buy a second ECU and tune that one then swap them back out if you needed work done? thats what some people were talking about doing in another thread about tuning leased vehicles.

My 7.3 gets good mpg now because of mods(chip, electric fans, cai, exhaust)
Stock it wasn't much to brag about.

I went from a 2010 Raptor to a 2004 Harley Davidson F250 Powerstroke to my 2013 Ecoboost F150 Xlt..... I will say that this truck is not a cool as the others but is probably the fastest. I routinely average 18.4 MPG in the city with short trips. I also see my fuel economy at 25ish at 55 MPH. Its all in how you drive it.

Are you looking at the Instant readout or are you actually calculating it? Is your ecoboost 2wd? 4wd? short box extended cab?

If my 5000+lb truck gets 18 mpg, I'm happy. If I wanted 30 mpg I'd get a little car to drive. It kills me that people bitch when a truck (no matter the brand) can't get 20 mpg. Trucks are meant for being a truck, if you don't need a truck, don't get one. These MPG wars between the brands is just like Art Van having a sale EVERY weekend. It's call advertisement folks. Don't get fooled.

I never understand why people are surprised at shitty mileage on the 3.5L TT. My wife's Flex has it and she gets terrible mileage. I get in it, reset the system, and get 4-5 mpg better. If you drive it to get good fuel economy, it will get good fuel economy. If you drive it to use all the power it makes, not so much. 3.5L is bad as hell as a duel purpose power plant.
