because the dealerships wont have the msrp on that document and then explain it to the customer as only needing to state the msrp on it in order to get them the car faster....
Believe it or not, the dealerships get audited on this stuff by the OEM's frequently, and it needs to add up. If they charge customers over MSRP, they would pretty much have to commit accounting fraud to hide it from Dodge. Plus it would screw them up on taxes, and open them up to liability if the customer found out (he could sue for the overcharge if it wasn't booked on the price of the car).
It almost seems like Dodge has found a loophole and I applaud them for it. Generally, the OEM can't force pricing on the dealership because of franchise laws. They aren't doing that here, though, they are letting the dealers set the price but leveraging the limited supply. Good stuff!
