Derelict areas of Detroit face being taken over by hordes of 'flesh and brain-eating zombies' if an ambitious business plan takes off.
Entrepreneur Mark Siwak wants to create live-action terror theme park 'Z World' on Motor City's run-down and abandoned streets.
Customers would pay to be chased by professional actors and try to seek shelter in ghostly homes, factories and businesses.

Take over time: Zombies could roam the streets of Detroit if a theme park is built in the city

Siwak said it would breathe fresh life into the rundown city, giving jobs to hundreds, if not thousands, of people.
But critics say it is an 'exploitative and insensitive ploy' to profit from Detroit's problems.

Curbed Detroit blogger Sarah Cox said the plan 'sounds a lot like all that fun we had during the 1960s race riots'.
She added: 'It's nice to know Z Land is finally going to capitalise on our love of adrenaline rushes and nostalgia. Now even visitors from the 'burbs can 'wonder if they will make it through the night.'

Decline: Detroit has been hit by a dwindling population in recent years

Terrifying: Entrepreneur Mark Siwak wants to create live-action terror theme park 'Z World' on Motor City's run-down and abandoned streets
Detroit has become known in recent years for pioneering 'creative solutions' like urban farming and pedestrian-friendly greenway trials.
Soaring budget deficits and a declining population has forced businesses and the authorities to 'think outside the box'.
And Siwak, who has raised $2,200 of the $140,000 needed through fundraising website IndieGoGo, said his theme park could be the perfect solution.
He told CBS Detroit: 'The city can only have so many urban farms or similar uses for vacant plots.'
And he revealed he is already receiving CVs from hundreds of residents keen to work at the tourist attraction.
He added: 'While zombies are great, the real neat thing about this project is the potential to inject some life into a forgotten neighbourhood - with the opportunity to work with neighbourhood groups and organisation'.
The project would follow in the footsteps of Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse, where thrill-seekers wield paint ball guns to play hide-and-seek with undead zombies in a formerly abandoned truck stop.

In before one of the actors turns out to be a gangster criminal and holds you up inside of an "escape house".

This would be too cool. It reminds me of playing paintball at Splatball City in Detroit.

I remember playing paintball there in the 90's! That place was freaking dangerous...rusty trucks and boats, broken glass, leaking drums of unknown solvents...what a blast.

Ya I think the last time I was there was mid 90's. We played once in December and it was snowing.........through the roof. There were large portions of the roof missing.......what a dump of a building.

yea lets go pay to play a big game of tag in a run down ass city block that sounds fun. why not run down the street with your car parked at the end of the block and yell offensive words at the people sitting out of their porch for free.

Yeeeaaaa, like that's ever going to happen, what a fuckin idiot. A permanent 200 acre plot in the the hood filled with zombies.. Sounds fun, but never goin to happen! There pretty much sayin well Detroit is fucked anyway and whole inner city is rundown, so let's keep it that way and put some fuckin zombies in there to make it better. There's no helping that city homie, don t waste your time lol

Every time I read comments below a news page about something in Detroit, everyone always talks about how bad it is, how scary it is, how you can't even drive down there without feeling like your going to be killed, etc.

I'm a white male, raised in a upper middle class family in Canton Michigan, kind of nerdy, love to do stuff like: play and collect arcade games, watch sci fi movies, take photos with my DSLR camera, and many more things people would not consider tough or bad ass. I don't work out. I don't know Kung Fu. I have guns, but I don't carry them on me since I don't have a CPL. Its just usually, my white ass, wearing a Mickey Mouse or ghostbusters shirt, cargo shorts and new balance tennis shoes.

I've been outside in the ghettos of Detroit before in front of crack houses. (Its happened a couple of times. Don't ask.) Now...my senses were heightened and everyone was staring at me, but I didn't feel like I was going to die. I'm pretty sure I've been in some of the worst places in Detroit in my life and I'm still here. People make it sound like it's a war zone. I mean..I'm not saying its good by any means and you can very likely get shot, stabbed, robbed or whatever in those places, but all I'm saying is a white kid from the suburbs with zero combat training, zero gang experience, zero whatever, has been down there a bunch of times and never had a hand laid on me. I've been more scared at big redneck bonfires in the boonies with drunk hillbillies looking to fight the suburban kids.

I guess what I'm saying is, everyone is dogging on going down to the zombie park if it opens because its such a bad area. As long as they have a secure parking lot with 24 hour security so no one's car gets fucked with, I'd be just fine going down there overnight. One guy in the comments section of the last news article was saying if you want to find out if you have the guts to join the service, then go to Detroit and if you don't get scared, you can handle a firefight in a combat situation just fine. I'm pretty sure he was being serious. Are people really that scared?? I mean...a lot of you guys go drag racing. I've had to shoe off crack heads in some of the places I've been with my car, waiting for a race to go down. I don't know. I just feel like Detroit is a scary place, but not comparable to what some people say.

If Z town turns into a reality, I'll be there fucking some Zombies up. I don't give a shit if it's in the ghetto or what. If it opens, it's going to be badass. So what if it's taking advantage of the slums. At least it's doing something with it, instead of meth labs and crack houses. Also, it'll offer jobs to people. It's not like their going to put the new Ford factory on that 200 acres or anything. I think its a sweet idea. I'm fucking down. And a Motown Muscle meeting/party would be kick ass to do there.
