Detroit Drifting

I love all the drift bashers.

It must be almost as fun as hit the gas and going in a straight line for 1320ft, right? :dontknow:

Going straight is fun, but if it's in a car worth doing it in, it's over in less than 10 seconds. In Auto-xing, drifting, road racing etc. the fun lasts minutes versus seconds.

I'd rather do a wheelie and race for 10 seconds then waste my tires driving sideways thru a parking lot with pink wheels.....

HMMMMM, that GTO sure looks familair :headscrat :secret: I didnt see Ashley in any of thoes vids, you'll have to run the new car when its done, gotta admit the GTO sounds good, hear it quite a bit.

To each their own, I'm sure both are a good time....and both require skill. No need to dish on someone for digging a different way to enjoy driving.

French road...my 18yr old cousin started going out...and I realized why I stopped. Cool that you guys have a spot to do that and not be on the street or in a used parking lot.

I agree. I'm pretty sure no one has tried it or went sideways around a corner. :hmm: I think it's pretty cool and is tougher than people think.

Ugh, here we go. The term drifting is incorrect. What that is is a opposite lock power slide or gross oversteer.

A drift is when a car is going around a corner with all the tires losing traction equally. it takes a very talented driver and an extreemly well balanced (handling) car to achieve it. Drift is a road racing term that has been in use since the 20's (there are driving articals with the term in them.)

It drives me nuts to see the term bastardized from a term of precision driving and skill to turn the wheel and stab the throttle.

You have upset the JDM gods, Xceed will soon release its firey wrath apon you.

I should clarify. Powerslides are fun but lets call it what it is. :D

agreed. it's totally different.

i was just thinking as i was watching that video.... "this should be called e-brake/throttle induced oversteering" instead of drifting. but it doesn't have the same JDM ring to it now does it.

what exactly about drifting is a "sport" again? i do that all the time in the snow in my truck, i thought it was part of Michigan drivers training in the snow???

Just curious. Do you consider Drag Racing a "sport"? If so, what exactly about drag racing is a "sport" again?
