Crazy 4.5L Duramax

The 4.5L is a pretty damn impressive motor.

:secret: beyond that I am not/can't say a whole lot.

Oh and Hi, I am new, been floating around a while, just have never posted. I've got a 2004 BB M6 GTO.

To each his own I guess. Minus the sound of the turbo which is sweet, kinda just sounds like blowing air??

I guess its a love hate thing it's one or the other, don't get me wrong I love the sound of a v-8 gas engine with some good exhuast. Just the diesel has something about it that gets my attention when you do a lil work to them and there billowing black smoke and all you hear is the turbo screaming thru the dash and out the tailpipe.

Ford Diesel

It's going to be interesting to see what the DI engines do to the diesel market.

Is DI really worth 10-20% of a fuel economy gain?

My cubemate just got back from Germany where he had a 3 Series diesel for a rental and he loved it.

Not just ecomonmy but huge gains in power output ability for the same rated fuel. I'm talking high compression turbo engines making huge power per cubic inch on basic fuels.

Even with that it will be a fad for a lil and eventualy diesel will still take over passanger car and light duty here I.M.O

Power per gallon of fuel is best in the diesel field period.

Agreed, I just still have a heard time believing the Americans will actually want to buy diesels. After the early 80's diesel that ruined the entire business, Americans still think Diesels are loud, dirty and inefficient.

A diesel engine is 35% more efficient than the a gasoline engine. It's just going to be hard to break the mindsight of millions of Americans.

Hell even in this thread there is a mention of black smoke, today's passenger car diesels DO NOT smoke. Sure if you have a ridiculous turbo-exhaust, or tune it will smoke. Black smoke is bad, black smoke means unburnt fuel. In todays economy the automakers can't afford to sell a car that smokes from the factory.

Buy diesel! If I could find a new DD that was a reasonable car I would be all over it. But that last thing I need is a 8,000lb truck to tote around.

And Scooter, yes the 330 & 335d's are awesome cars. They are little economic torque monsters. If I recall correctly the US will be getting the 330d here soon.

You ran the "eco-boost" but NOT the 2010 dieselS. ;) Come by sometime and ill show you.

lol, um when I was at XXX we did the break-in and intial cylinder head development on the new diesel.. I played with it before you guys even seen it.:bigthumb:

If you don't recall I lost my job over posting a lil insider crap about it on here.

I don't think they will want to for along time either. I think its gunna come down to there not gunna have a choice, I don't see alot of auto companys spending the billions to research and actually produce anything to far fetched.

D.I. Is gunna be a decent improvment over standard injection but even then its old school diesel technology thats been around forever (D.I) and its just getting implimented into gas engines. They can only go so far until they basicly are gunna be pushing the limits of gasoline fuel and have to convert.

E85 is a fad as well and a stupid selling gimick when it comes to production cars stuff.. It makes good power in performance apps. but is not practical at all in everyday use over diesel fuels.

Anything i discuss is already ford released.

I can tell from that last statement, without reading anything else you were/area diesel guy.

Great to see someone else out there that knows the facts and understands that these interim fixes, are just that - fixes. E85 is a complete crock of crap. It's less efficient and now it is publicly out there it is worse for the US environment.

I am more worried that Americans are going to stick on the DI market. Hell look at the CTS DI right now, those things are selling like hot cakes because people found out you get higher horsepower & mileage with them.

I got news for people.......horsepower sells cars, torque moves them....
