Craiglist idiots - I'm tired of it!

Is it just me or is just about 98% of everyone on craigslist mentally challenged?

I've had my dealings over the years (at one point I had this woman buying furniture that was so crazy we actually had some fun with it for a bit), and have at points just thrown shit out rather than selling and going through the hassle. I just replaced my home theater equipment and was just putting stuff up cheap to help some folks get a good deal. The first question people always ask is, "Still available?". Come on, look at the ad posted 19 minutes ago, what do you think? At times I just put "will remove when sold" but that doesn't seem to help these illiterate folks.

Then, I always say all specs and info available on manufacturers website and post a link. It never fails that people have a million questions about size, dimensions, power output etc. Damn, I like to help people but I'd rather throw shit out and eat a few hundred bucks than deal with these tools.

Rant over.

.......what you have for home theater equip? I need a pair of speakers.. My front channels are wearing out.

It's the price of dealing with free listings! About 70% of the replies I get are from spammers collecting email addresses. The "still available" or call me at "288-141" (partial phone number) are all spammers.

lmfao. I posted up a HEAVY ass basketball pole for free - it was hollow (no concrete) and THICK ass steel... I didn't have a way to haul it to the scrap yard so I put it up for free - first come first serve, someone can scrap it for cash... I started getting emails asking if it was still outside within 10-20 minutes, and people asking for the address (I put up a link and map in the ad with address...) --

Well, in 4 hours it was gone... So I changed the ad to say "THANKS CRAIGSLIST! The scrap steel is ALL GONE!"

For the next week I kept getting emails if I still had it... WTF!!!!

I gave a lot of stuff away, just couldn't deal with it having no time with work and a newborn. Sorry. Only thing left is a Polk PS303b sub I had lying around that never got used much. If anyone needs one on the cheap let me know.

Maybe we should have a "Best of" craigslist experiences thread. Some are quite comical, glad to see I'm not alone here.

we have a free tote at the store, it is usually empty. I could put anything in it and someone would take it for free. Craigslist is bad and ebay is right there with it.

Most of my CL experiences have been great as far as buying goes. Selling on the other hand, not so much.

I've got a set of Cobalt SS wheels I'm trying to sell. I bought them with tires on them but they weren't the proper size for a Cobalt. I was trying to sell them together but had a guy interested in the wheels without the tires. We agree on a price for the wheels only, I get the tires removed from the wheels at a cost to me. Then the fucking dick backs out on the sale. After backing out he shoots me this low ball offer. So pissed about that. Now I have a set of tires and a set of wheels sitting in the garage seperately and instead of making money I've thrown some away.

Luckly I just had made a successful sale last week, no trouble at all, but in the past I've had some real idiots. People taking my work addy then never showing, calling on the road, saying they were coming and never show. Something for sale for $100 and getting offered $35 or $45 for it.

I've got three postings now I can't even get a call on. Mustang tires, 275's and 255's...cheap...not one call.

I've got a bunch of tires on there right now too. Tires don't seem to be easy to sell. Wheels were flying out of my garage though. Although the other Cobalt wheels sold on the Cobalt SS forum and not craigslist.

X2 I stopped answering anything when i sold my car that came from CL. It's just too much hassle. Not even sure how some of the people are navigating to the site let alone replying to an add.

What I always include in my ads....

This ad will be deleted when sold.
Emails asking “is it still available” will be ignored . Cash only – no checks.
Located in Milan, MI 48160 ~ Just south of Ann Arbor, right off of US23.

This does help, but as you stated, not always. I try to include the specs & info
from the manufacturers website, not simply include a link to it.

people will read the half the ad, then call you asking questions about the other
half of the ad! If you follow a few rules, this Craigslists thing can & will work very
well!

This is true for the most part, but still worth it for me.

Your mistake was you don't update & post a ad as "sold" or "gone."
You should simply delete the ad. Even doing a delete you'll still get a
few contacts, but nothing like leaving an up up with "gone".

You too made a mistake, NEVER modify or change a thing until or unless
the customer first pays you for the items. In these kind of deals,
the customer has to make the first move / commitment, or you’re
guaranteeing disappointment for yourself!

In the case of separating wheels and tires, something I can't very well do myself, that is not a very practical theory.

I had a douche bag that wanted some wheels I have for sale. He wanted them Sunday and I had plans so I told him Monday. He offered an extra $50 for Sunday, so I said fine when can you be here. He didn't answer, then yesterday he offers me $50 less than what I was asking. I told him to fuck off

So you went to a tire store & had the tires removed from the rims, correct?

All I’m saying is, you should have had the customer meet you at the tire store
before you had the tires removed. And you should have done this instead of
agreeing to meet him after you did this!

Lowballers comprise of nearly every email I get while selling something. I always make detailed postings and I know the value of what it is Im selling. Even when I say "lowball offers will be ignored", I still get a bunch. I buy and sell alot of audio equipment on there, and almost every potential buyer takes my postings as "some dude looking to get rid of obsolete junk". Back when I sold my fully restored (I mean totally gone through) Klipsche Fortes, they were the cheapest listing for those speakers at the time of the posting. The $500 I was asking was more than fair. The best response I got on them was "theyre not original, will you take $100?". The best part is, the guy claimed he would drive all the way from Kentucky for them. Later that day, a guy emailed me wanting to look at them. He came over and was very impressed, had no problem getting my asking price :).

If it really gets that bad & you’ve reached that point,
Bring your junk over to my place & I’ll list, market,
and meet the buyers, make the sale and send you 50%
of any sale.

There ya go, painless. You’re happy, the customer is happy
and I’m happy!

I just sold an ipod to someone from Detroit lol and the deal went too smooth. Met in public and he didnt even try to offer a lower price.

The problem with that is, tire stores are not open at all hours, not very practical still.
