Cop shoots biker in the back during a traffic stop

TOLEDO, OH (WTVG) -- A never-before-seen police dash cam video was shown in court today in the trial of an Ottawa Hills police officer accused of shooting and paralyzing a man during a traffic stop.

The video shows Officer Thomas White following Michael McCloskey and his friends on their Harleys. At one point, McCloskey takes off at a high rate of speed. Officer White hits his siren and McCloskey stops his bike.

Officer White ends up shooting McCloskey. Attorneys for White say he believed McCloskey had a gun. However, McCloskey was unarmed and appears docile in the video.

The jury will have to determine if the shooting was justified. White is charged with felonious assault and faces up to 11 years in prison.

if the view was from the cops perspective it probably did look like he could have been reaching for a weapon.. i dont know if thats enough to shoot him though
 
From what I see in that video, he was shot in the back for simply looking back:shrug:
He knew they were caught, with a police car in front of them and stopped.
I wouldnt call that a justified shooting

The officer kept yelling to raise his hands... The kid didn't... He put his hand on his leg/hip... He then withdrew his hand backwards... Instead of putting them straight up or foward up...

This is going to be a very close judgement either way... The cop didn't know the kid wasn't armed... The kid made movements that are very commen for reaching for a weapon...

It can go both ways... But I think the officer is justified...

The guy isnt small, and is clearly not turning all the way around. The officer is on the left side of him yelling. So, with that, even IF he had a gun, I couldnt see where the officer would justify shooting him in the back without visual contact of the weapon or the man turning his body around far enough to justify threat in this specific situation. To shoot the officer on the left side of him with his right hand, he'd have to turn almost all the way around. I dont see it
 
That guy's hand is on his thigh....all he's doing is looking back. That was 100% bullshit. That cop should be raped in prison.
 
Just think none of this would have happened if he didn't run. Now he in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Not saying the cop was right, but he did fuck up by running.

I can see what your saying, but on the same token, he stopped. The guy was just sitting there, hand off the clutch.
 
I dunno, after watching teh vid the biker moved his hand pretty damn fast and towards his pocket. Not saying the cop needed to shoot him in the back, but I dont think he was completely in the wrong.

If I was the guy on the bike why the fuck wouldnt you just stand your bike and and put your hands up. The cop will probably be convicted and the dude is paralyzed for life, pretty fucked up all the way around.

i think there might be more to this than we're seeing......it was a pretty big deal down here. i think they were taunting the cop, or something, at one point.....ottawa hills is a pretty exclusive community. they don't fuck around with bullshit. o.h. is where all the big $$$ is around here.

I looked at a few house in the O.H. but the taxes are outrageous :jawdrop2:

From the video it didn't appear like he was going to pull a gun. I have a feeling that cop is going to be doing some time.
