Cop Haters...

I would like to say I think what you are doing is great!.....It seems we deal with these big headed, power driven cops so much....It is truly great to see a cop that is cool and respects the car commumity. +1 for answering these questions and hanging on here with us!!! (not trying to investigate us hahah)

I checked the web as I didn't know the answer off the top of my head. I believe you have 15 days from the time of sale to register the vehicle. You can drive the car from point of sale to home and/or home to SOS unregistered. Keep the title, insurance and any other paper work with you during your trip. Ill double check the grace period tomorrow at work.

Thanks, I'm supposed to be buying the car today so if you can double check that'd be great.

why is it the City of Detroit policy to keep in car video tapes for 90 days, even when they show a police car doing a PIT manuever.

How fast are officers to pull over a sports/muscle car with tinted windows? And i say sports or muscle cars because they look so much better with tinted windows. When i ask people how do they getaway with their windows tinted so dark they reply with "i know a police officer" or "i have a prescription". I had my windows rolled down and i got pulled over. The officer said since my rear and quarter windows were tinted, he assumed the passenger side were too. He then asked me to roll my windows up and wrote me a ticket.

And yes this is a very informative thread. +1

I'd like some info on this as well.

I received a ticket for a car I sold 2 years prior. When I went to the police station They were also looking for me relating to a hit and run and some other offenses. Luckily I had a copy of my sale of the vehicle. So I wasn't thrown in the slammer.

What I was told at the time, is I should have gone to make sure they transfer the information, title/registration, into their name. But I know from another vehicle I sold before that the SoS does not want me there to force the new owner to transfer. I was told to leave the SoS for going with a person to transfer the information. Legal or not I don't know but I complied.

And yes I still had to pay for the ticket and I currently have 2 more tickets in my name from the same car and nothing I can do about it from what the police told me so far.

You incriminated yourself on that one. Ive had the same thing happen, luckily I took the tint off before I got pulled over. The cops never believed they weren't tinted, and always felt the need to check the vin against the registration, insurance, and plate. All because the truck had no badges on it, they assumed it was stolen.

OK, you can drive your car from point of sale to either the SOS or home without it being registered, but you should have it insured just in case something happens.

I think on the back of the MI title it has the time frame in which your supposed to register the vehicle. This obviously is for someone buying a car to drive on a daily bases not someone buying a car to restore. Im not sure if there really is a penalty other than the alleged $10 late charge which I think applies to daily driven vehicles.

As far as tints go. I know cars look better with them and on the flip side I know the dangers of them while working as a PO. I can't speak for all Officers, some have it out for tints and some could care less. If an Officer asks you to roll up your windows, just do it...digging in your heals may get you into more trouble than its worth for sure.

Thanks for the feedback, Im sure not everyone will agree with what I say but I try to be fair.

See you out on WW

So I got pulled last night by a Lansing cop, in the Viper. He claimed that he couldn't read my temp tag. Pure harassment.

This is the car with the old tag.

i put a temp tag on my trans am 2 summers ago for approx 2 months and got pulled over "EVERY NIGHT I WENT TO WOODWARD"

Friend of mine got stopped while working (driving) last night on Van Dyke in Sterling Heights. Said he pulled him over because he made the cop slow down? Turns signals were used, not speeding, car is a brand-new vehicle.

Oh, and the driver was black.. Even told the driver that he had warrants in Detroit for drunk driving (which he does not). Who does my friend complain to about this asshole on a power trip and racial profiling?

Didn't get a ticket and let him go.

It would be priceless IF he really did have warrants, went into make a complaint and got :jail: for his warrants after the "asshole on a power trip" really was being cool by letting him go.

I did this once before in Detroit. I went to the station after I got out of court to clear my name. Asked to file a complaint. They told me there is nothing I can complain about because the officers did nothing wrong. When I said I would still like to fill one out, they walked away.

What can I do at that point?

I have a question for you.

In general, how do officers feel about civilians driving ex-police cars?
Mine looks like the real deal (minus any lights, strobes, etc.) and i've been pulled over in Centerline recently and explained that the car was mainly used for work purposes (i own a repossession company and use it for spotting and field calls) and he understood and let me go.

I'm just wondering if i should expect to be pulled over a lot?

I dont care really. Usually they are cheap enough to buy and even though they are often well kept up they are driven hard often 24 hrs a day.
