Coolant Disposal

If clean coolant - I was told it is ok to just dump in sewage (not storm drains or if you have septic)?

Meaning dump it down the drain? Not sure I would do that.

Maybe autozone or something similar has a dump like they do for oil?
How much do you have?

I have to replace the radiator on my '04 Z71 so it's going to be a few gallons. Autozone doesn't take it.

Seems like the Macomb Co hazardous waste collection would be my best bet - I think they usually have them in May and sometime later in the summer. Let's hope the 'rona doesn't screw that up. I can sit on it for a few months.

I am on well and septic....really wouldn't be too comfortable dumping down sewer. I've heard mixed opinions on whether that's OK or not, but I'd like to avoid it.

The city/township/county usually has a hazardous waste collection date each month.

You can check the county website for dates. Covid might affect disposal.

I would not dump it down the drain.

Look at your city's website. Several places I have lived say you can dump down the drain 1 gallon of 50/50 coolant per 20 gallons of water. Basically dilute it.

Not all places have the ability to absorb it. It seems to be related to what they do at the waste treatment plant.

Some places simply burn the dry waste so at that point it doesn't matter much.

I mean if your going to dump it down the drain you mind as well just dump it in the grass :dontknow: in the mean time a 5gallon bucket with a lid at depot is cheap until you find a place that takes it.

I live in Oakland County and drop it off at SOCCRA on Coolidge Highway.
