Considering a new puppy in the fairly near future. I need your help MM.

When I decide to bring a new puppy in our home as a playmate for my kids and other dog, I'm going to look for a blue or blue/brindle male pitbull. I'm looking for one from a good, healthy, bloodline and from parent's that are family dogs. I don't want any backyard bred ghetto "pits." I'd ideally be looking for pups from lean "pumpkin head" parents. I will NOT be breeding them, so the owners of the parents do not have to worry about papers and/or me bastardizing their bloodline. I'd be looking for pups no older than 10 weeks...when I start looking.

Do any of you have friends/family who would have leads on future litters that fit this description?

Also, I do not want rescues, or adult dogs. I won't chance my childrens' safety on a dog that I didn't control how it was raised.

I picked up my puppy after searching for a while through a guy on here. Quickguido I think. Here he is at 4 and a half months

depending on how much money you want to spend a friend of mine is always in the loop for pitbull pups and breedings...

I'm not looking to spend a lot. Probably around a couple hundred bucks. Paperless pitbull pups should never go for more than that anyway. With papers is another story, mainly because both parties (owners of the pups parents and the new pup owners) want to profit from the bloodline later down the road with other litters. I'm not buying dogs to help supplement my income. I buy them to love, play with, and protect my family.

Should be about a hundred at the pound. Go pick one up. People that pay money for dogs (unless it's rare or they're going to show/breed it) amaze me.

I disagree. At 8-10 weeks old the pups would have had some shots, food, care, etc given to them. Why not pay that to the owners of the pups parent's for their time, care, etc? If I wanted a dog from the pound I'd go get one. I'd like one from parents I can ask questions about, see where they live and how they were raised, etc.

Al, please at least consider looking into rescuing a puppy or an juvenile before buying a puppy from a back yard breeder. They are a huge cause of the problem with the over population. It's very irresponsible of breeders. There are so many great dogs out there that need homes already. And the dogs from the buster foundation aren't kept at a facility, they're fostered in loving homes where you can go and meet them, take your kids, ect. Their profiles tell you which ones would kids and which ones wouldn't.

Al, do you think you became who you are now in the first 8-10 weeks of your life?

Dog's don't become mean in their first 10 weeks of their life. Rescuing a puppy from animal control/humane society gives you a better chance, because typically they have had the dogs since they were born - at least the ones around here do, when the mother is rescued while pregnant...

Rescuing a dog from animal control/humane society gives the dog a good home and helps with over population + gives you a dog whom will love your family just the same.

So many opinions about what Al should do, but we all know Al is gonna do what Al wants to do. Instead of trying to change the hard headed Eye-tail-yens mind, help him out.

As I said, I do not want a "back yard bred" dog. Or an "accidental pregnancy" dog. I'd like one from a good bloodline that I can track to see health issues and temperament.
What do you think the 'adoption fee' at the pound is?
Did I say it wasn't exactly that? At the pound I can't check out the parents or grand parents, etc.

No I did not become who I am in the first 8-10 weeks of my life but my parents are a very good sign of who am.

The rescues are full of pups looking for good homes, just like your kids it all in how you raise them. We adopted Maddie at 8 weeks they came out and inspected our home before we wer allowed to adopt.

By there rules she had to be fixed and microchipped before we could bring her home and if it didn't work out we had to return her to the rescue and they kept in contact with us for 3 years.

She is 6 years old She has been nothing but a Joy ! Well mannered, GREAT with the kids and Smart as a whip ! Total cost to adopt was $250 Its worth at least taking a look HUG-A-BULL Rescue in Royal Oak

I'll look at both options you guys suggested. The only thing I do not like about what svopro had to say is that they made him fix his bitch before they brought her home. I assume they'd do that with the males too? If so, that's kind of a deal breaker. I've heard arguments on both sides of the table stating how male pups grow in their first 3 years of life when they do and do not get clipped. Most argue that males grow bigger and leaner the longer they stay intact. Diesel was 3 days short of being 4 years old and was still intact. Though he was going to get snipped this winter. He was an amazing specimen of his breed! Lean, tall, strong as hell, very protective of my kids and very playful. Aside from the farting, the car-sized shit piles, the snoring, messy jowls, the constant ear infections, and of course the bone cancer that ultimately took his life, he was a great family dog...despite the fact that I got him from an "accidental pregancy" breeder. I got him before I did all the research I needed to on bully breeds. Had I researched the breed more and got him from a more reputable family/breeder, I might still have my fathead buddy here today.

Give them a call and see what they say. We got to meet Maddies parents the owners wife had a stroke and was unable to take care of the pups thats why they wer up for adoption. As for being fixed its just a point of trying to control the over population of unwanted dogs but I can understand your concerns also. Good Luck in your search and I hope you find what your looking for !
