Cheap brake rotors - is there really a difference in quality?

For instance, you can get some replacement brake rotors for barely more than just getting your old ones turned. Then there are some like the NAPA Ultra Premium that cost $70-100 a piece without being slotted/drilled (I don't want those features anyways.)

Speaking for a LS1 brake setup on a 4th-gen F-body, is there any reason to get anything but the cheapo rotors from the local parts store/Autozone/Murray's? I know that I've heard of the guys with C5 brakes using $30 Autozone rotors, but is that because they're throw-aways or would they use them for a car that isn't tracked where you don't frequently replace brake parts?

They are all ISO9001/9002 they are all certified to specs... Basically the same... All car companies use CHINA rotors anyways... No manufacturer makes a rotor/drum in the USA no more or even Canada... They are all made in China...

There are differences in the Iron used, the thickness of the braking surface number of cooling fins and the angles and curve of those fins. Yes there are rotors that are still made in canada alot of the Bendix rotors are still ma ethere.

Well put. Plus i've noticed alot on cheaper rotors, once it's time for new pads again, the cheapo's are so warped they cant be turned and still stay with in specs, for the state of MI, Like Dave said, Raybestos FTW.

You do realize Raybestos in made in CHINA right?

place I get parts through work used to carry a lot of high end stuff. Brembo, etc. Now they carry just the cheaper line of rotors, and after using them, they are great.

Didn't warp any faster than the stock rotors Ive had, and the price is right.

If they dont warp, I dont care if I have to buy new rotors with every pad change; hell they were only 20 each. It costs around 12-15 to turn nowadays. No brainer.

I still buy alot of the canadian made rotors when I can. There are differnces even in the rotors comming from china. Some are definately better then others.

The Canadian rotors are still made in China... Just a rebox...

That may be true . . . but what can you buy thats made in the US anymore? Most of the sutff made in the US anymore, is junk. And it truly is a sad thing to see. Find me some good quality brake parts that are made in the US and don't cost $120 a rotor and I will gladly buy them, and continue to buy them.

Not when the rotor has Made In Canada cast on it. Only a few lines left and inventory quantitys left. Soon they will all be gone.

All the Canadians did was machine it... The original is from cast in China... I was shocked as hell...

I can get you top of the line parts cheaper then anyone else... :icon_bigg
