do i need a special spool or can i use the spool i have for general sheet metal. or do i have to TIG it. There aluminized mufflers i wanna swap into my existing cat-back, thanks
You have to remove the aluminized coating first. You need to have clean steel to weld on.
True, it's just an exhaust system and it's gonna rust either way, but I would still clean off the coating first. You don't want it to look like bird shit. At least I wouldn't on my car. My .02.I weld with a little Lincoln Electric wire only MIG on exhaust systems all day with no issues. The welds look like bird shit and rust up, but I have never had any issues ever. You get impurities in the weld, but normally it won't make a difference in an exhaust system.
