do i need a special spool or can i use the spool i have for general sheet metal. or do i have to TIG it. There aluminized mufflers i wanna swap into my existing cat-back, thanks

regular steel mig wire works fine, helps to clean the coating at the seam, but not absolutely necessary, I dont

I weld with a little Lincoln Electric wire only MIG on exhaust systems all day with no issues. The welds look like bird shit and rust up, but I have never had any issues ever.
I've welded aluminized steel to a stainless resonator and 15k later, it still is perfect.

You get impurities in the weld, but normally it won't make a difference in an exhaust system.

True, it's just an exhaust system and it's gonna rust either way, but I would still clean off the coating first. You don't want it to look like bird shit. At least I wouldn't on my car. My .02.

also, depends on the welder, with a hot 220v machine, it will burn the coating off, and be a real clean bead as weld
