BRAKE SYSTEM: Convert

The '66 has a single reservoir for brake fluid, manual brakes. The one brake line, branches off and goes to all 4 wheels. Originally it had 4 wheel drum. I believe it has the original brake lines. YIKES!

I put disc brakes on front. I'd like to remove the brake reservoir and add a dual brake fluid reservoir. I "heard" brake reservoir one off a 78 maverick (maybe 73) will bolt right on.

What else am I going to need? I might as well run new brake lines. Can I buy the tool to bend the brake lines so they don't get kinked? Where?
A proportioning valve? I believe I want more front braking. How much?

What diameter brake line should I run? Are the ends of the brake lines (where flared) universal in size?

What should I use to clip the new brake line to the body? where should I get that? what should I use?

I'm pretty sure you need that stuff. I did a disc conversion on my old Chevelle and needed to replace the Master as well as the proportioning valve. Have you tried looking into MAsterPower brakes or SSBC? IIRC they had complete kits there for these old yachts. Then you could piece it together from there.

I did learned that there are differnt Master Cylinders for differnt kinds of brake systems for the same car, FYI. Something about the calipers needed more fluid flow than the drum cylinders.

Is that why the front reservior holds more fluid?

I would assume so. I popped over to those 2 websites and they only sell some ridiculous $400+ setup, nothing stock. Maybe it's possible to swap a late-model MC in there? I'm not much help with Fords as I mostly worked on GM stuff. Hope I didn't make it more confusing.

Inline tube is a great resource for ALL the lines, ALL the clips and attaching hardware. NPD has power brake conversion and disc / drum or disc / disc kits. Yeah it all can be done on the cheap if you want to prowl junk yards and the 'net for months. Or you can have it all in time to install this weekend. Your call!!!
