So a friend of mine and I were discussing this. I figured this would be a good place to get some answers. For someone that has no riding experience, what should be their first bike? New or used? What size i.e. 600, 750, bigger than 750, smaller than a 600? Thanks guys!

used 600, they make 250's but my wife had one and was bored with it in 2 months

But your size depends on bike size also, if your a bigger guy go with a 750

i say used 600. new is retarded if you never rode before. its not if you go down, but when.

i want to get a bike eventually, and my first will be a used 600

See we both agreed on the "getting bored" with a smaller bike REAL quick, and I have heard the same thing from other experienced riders. But buying a new bike seems risky to me having no experience. I'm only 5'7" 175 lbs

Get a used 600, new is not a good idea plus used is half the price. Detroitstyle has a sweet Honda CBR 600RR for a great price!

Dont waist your time on a 600. Give yourself something to grow into. 600's are slow and boring.

I look at it like this.

Okay, your new to bikes you wanna be safe and just get your feet wet? Your going to buy a 600 and ride it for a summer. Your going to get comfortable and bored on it. Your then going to take a hit and lose money on the sale of the 600. Then spend more money on a 750 or 1k. Remember the bike only goes as fast as the rider twists the throttle. go with a bigger bike and save yourself money, time and frustration.

buy a used 600... the bikes gonna fall over while your going slow doing something stupid... i happens to everyone once the start to get too confident on it

Yeah cause how many people take it easy on there first bike :893goof_v, I had my first 600 and within 2 weeks I was attempting 2nd gear stand ups. But I agree within a season of riding and getting used to the bike he may want to upgrade, but keep in mind a 600 will stand up in 4th gear going 75mph you don't need 1000cc's to have fun it just makes it easier

the difference is that no matter what you get for your first bike your gonna want to upgrade to something better and bigger within the first year anyways... a used 600 is less money so why spend the extra to learn on

If you do the math it doesnt make sense at all. buy a 600 for say 5,000. Ride it for a summer. next spring its now 1 yr older with more miles and the economy isnt any better so your going to take a lose on it. Then you turn around and spend more money on a new one. Id do it once and be done with it.

Used 600
*Get used to the feel of the bike and get comfterable toying around

Then
*Pipe
*Power Commander
*Clutch
*Sprocket

Have fun!

id doesnt matter what you get... your still going to want something faster... why do you think everyone works on their cars over the winter... its not to make the more comfortable

I've done the math, but on a separate topic: accident statistics.

Beginner riders have no business trying to learn the ropes on a high powered machine. It's absolutely retarded. The argument that you don't have to ride a fast bike fast doesn't hold up to well documented accident statistics.

x2 I'm an experienced rider and I'm still timid if I hop on a Liter bike

same here and I won't even ride a liter bike. IMO they're pretty pointless on the street. Drag? Great. Street? :dunno:

Downriver and in your hood let alone anywhere in SE michigan there is hard to find a road that is smooth enough to completey go WOT on a liter bike and not shit yourself

275 from the 75 interchange in Monroe to 94 was my sweet spot

I've been riding for 15 years... and my daily rider is a 2003 CBR600RR.

People who say 600s are slow and boring... all they know how to do is wack the gas on the highway. My 600RR is a blast to ride every day.
