best products to use on swirl marks & fine scratches?

I have had some recommendations already but want to see what else is out there. I cleaned and clay barred my whole new (to me) truck today and i got a number of fine scratches and swirl marks i want to get rid of and restore the paint to a nice deep shine again. I have both orbital buffer and a cheap wheel from harbor fake.

Thanks,
ryan

Dupont No 7 Auto Polish is by far my favorite. Believe it or not, using it on a D/A sander with a 6" wool bonnet works very well.

I have Meguiar's Swirl Remover and also Meguiar's Ultimate Compound if you want to give it a try. Be careful with a rotary, easy to put holograms and marring in paint with them. Here is an example (not mine, pulled it from a search):

so i be better to use a cheap orbital buffer instead? i plan on doing a nice hand application after ward in a back and fourth motion as opposed to orbital.

An orbital probably will not provide any paint correction. If you've used your wheel before without any problems, give it a go. Just make sure the paint is perfectly prepped first. I may be buying a new DA soon, and if I do we can try to get that truck swirl free (even though it isn't bad at all).

Meguiars 105 and 205 are my Dad's new compound's of choice. I usually listen to what he reccommends as the paint jobs alone on the cars he details cost more than my house  ..... Literally.

M105/205 polish combo is awesome for sure. Ultimate Compound almost finishes LSP ready as well.

NO! Stay away from the $10 buffers you find at Sears or Meiers. Pick up a porter cable machine, some Chemical Guys Scratch and Swirl Be Gone and a bottle of Final polish and call it a day. Both product are easy to use and provide awesome results.

If you've never used a rotary before I'd leave them alone. Not only can you cause the holograms and mar the paint, you can also burn right through your clear.

Basically there are many products that work. With that being said, stay away from Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound (aka rocks in a bottle). Paint prep is the most important step, IMO.

It is possible to burn thru the paint with a rotary, But if you using a foam pad, Which is all that I would reccommend and your cautious of your edges you almost have to try to burn thru.

strike-throughs AKA burning can happen on any set-up, but usually happens when using more aggressive products in a more aggressive method (rotary due to the increase in heat).

Meg's 105 and 205 are great - but not guaranteed to work 100% for you. Each and every car will pose a new set of challenges and differences. Good products and tools cost good money, so if you're looking for quality results, there's not such thing as cheap, easy, and fast.

Let me know if I can help provide any information

Get yourself a Flex 3401, lake country pads, and menzerna and call it a day!

flex is kinda over kill for a weekend warrior, a PC is cheap and works great. To the OP I use Poorboys stuff it works decent and is cheap. But like Marc said Megs shit is good too. Alot of it is almost trial and error till you find the right combo.

Good luck
