AUTOWEEK said:
NOPI cancels remaining events for 2008

NOPI Motorsports, which hosted import drag races, drifting competitions and car shows, has canceled the rest of its 2008 season, citing "an organizational restructuring in light of severe adverse affects of a disappointing spring season."

"The economy and unfavorable weather resulted in underperformance of all spring events," NOPI said in a statement. "Michael Meyers, president of NOPI Motorsports, reports that NOPI Motorsports is working with its clients and sponsors to minimize the uncertainty going forward. This is a reflection of the economic times in which we currently live."

NHRA, which sanctioned the events, was officially disappointed.

"NHRA is surprised and extremely disappointed to hear that NOPI Motorsports has announced that it plans to cancel the rest of the 2008 NOPI Drag Racing Series season," its statement read.

NHRA encouraged racers to participate in its Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series and the Summit Racing Series, as well as reminding racers that Battle of Imports has four NHRA member tracks remaining on its 2008 season schedule, with events planned in Sacramento and Fontana, California; in Portland, Oregon, and in Seattle.

rice is dead

It's too bad as I'm pretty sure turbo domestics had pretty much taken over the big RWD NOPI classes. Much cooler to see domestics taking over the import races then to see them just die :)

No more FOAM pits? :( The only thing that was decent was the WHORES. Ricers don't race from a dig they ROLL

They have been spiraling downward for a couple years now. No supsrise here.
well just look at the facts. they based their market on a group of kids with no money to afford real cars, real mods, ect... of course they were going to fail from the get-go.

x2... All their junk they got after F&F1 has rusted out by now and they can't fix or hope to ever stop it and they gave up. Pretty simple actually.

it wasn't the bad economy that kill nopi, it was good taste. nobody, even most import owners, wants to see body kits and 19s on a civic any more.

Imports or not, that's too bad. Damn economy is getting everybody. Even Starbucks finally feels the wrath. Closing 600 stores nationwide, 18 in Michigan. Utica and Groesbeck..gone, 9 and Gratiot...gone. I go there maybe 3 times a year, so I'm not hurt.

NOPI was just a big ricer convention anyways, cool back in 2001? Maybe. Now? No.

And Starbucks... I don't feel bad at all. Those faggots charge $5 for a fucking cup of coffee... no thanks. It's good, but it's not THAT good. Oh, and they don't have free wi-fi like Caribou. Long live Caribou Coffee!!!

I do get Caribou when I sit on the wall at Woodward. You know...2 years ago, some bitch came out and started telling us to leave, because we are taking up parking. Just two weeks ago, I bought a cold drink and sat on the wall. While drinking it, I looked around and about 100 other people had Caribou Coffee too....I didn't see that bitch complaining now!!!! They made hella money that night!
