Well two weeks ago I had to put my dog down. He wouldn't eat and was acting depressed. I figured he was depressed because I hadn't spent time with him in a day or two because of work, but my girlfriend talked me into taking him to the Animal Hospital, they did a blood test and he had high toxins in his kidneys. I couldn't afford the bill so I took him home for the night after he was given some antibiotics and some fluid under his skin to keep him hydrated. The next day he was taken to another hospital and put on bags to flush his kidneys out. Every so often they would do a blood test to check his levels, and they kept going up. The doctor had faith in him as he just turned 3 the day we took him in, and felt he was a very strong god so he kept him overnight for 3 days at no charge to us.
Well, after all was said and done I had to make a decision because he kept getting worst. He actually shit out skin from a rat the same day, so we had to flush him again hoping that, that was the toxins in him. Everything was getting worst and after 3 days in the hospital he was starting to twitch, you could also see in his eyes that he wasn't feeling good. That day I put him down.
Moral of the story, I spoke to the Vet and it seems multiple cases (Over 30) have been reported of rats/mice poisoning dogs. Make sure your yard is clean, and that there are no ways for a rat or mouse to live on your property. My yard is clean, but my neighbor is a hoarder. I never thought this would happen, so just giving you guys a heads up. It's pretty tough putting down a 3 year old dog to something you'd never thought you'd have to go through for another ten years.
