ARRRRGH TPI problems part 2

I am refering to this...

"i took off the AIR pump and capped the lines coming out of the manifold after gettin someone elses mess cleaned up"


Might have something to do with their rigging. Not knocking your abilities at all.
 
Ok heres what ive done,

Fireing order 18436572 is correct, Set timing at #1 TDC, unplugged the tan/black wire set timing at 6* base, replaced IAC, removed AIR pump and capped off all of the large lines leading to the manifolds, took off MAF and cleaned with carb cleaner

Now once i took off the maf and cleander it she seemend to smooth out and the knocking has stopped.

Whats left is a rought idle, and rough all the way thru the rpms and abslotuly NO power at all im htinking soemhtign to do with the egr or O2s? since i took off the air pump?

well it is a TPI 305 right. I am hopping you weren't hoping for HP out of that thing. Could be the EGR is hanging open. Only trouble is its underneath the plenum. I would try disconnecting the vacum line first.

No its a tpi350, and it took the entire lenght of my road, (over a 1/4 mile) to wind out 2nd gear im going to check out the egr stuff but im not sure what lines are for what

If it requires to pull off the plenum i wouldent mind just deleting the entire egr system anyways

Be extra careful taking the plenum off..the aluminum combined with steel bolts on an old car, you usually end up breaking shit and having to drill/tap the holes.

that sounds a bit lazy for a TPI 350 for sure. Does it still have a Catalyst on it ?? if it does its the older pellet style. Should be replaced with a newer monolithic brick :wink: . Could a be cloged cat but a rough idle wouldn;t be normal for a clogged cat unless the exhuast was glowing red. I would suspect EGR.
 
Definitly no glowing red idle so i guess im looking at an egr problem now? I htink it might also need a new MAF since i cleared up a little when i cleaned it out. Im going to go take a look at what itll take to just delete the entire egr system

alot of screwing around to remove the EGR. You should be able to just take of the Upper plenum and get right at it though. I would see if you can find a MAF to borrow to test with.
 
Well im the only person around here i know that has a tpi car, i dodnt know where to go form here, its missing at idle again still has no power sounds like a spark knock and backfiring under any load..... im lost form here

I looked in the back room. I threw out the Last TPI MAF i had.
 
Yea i dont know i cant egt it runnin worth a shit so i think tomorw ill start workin on my blazer get that runnin and put this thing off to the side for now :(

Does tapping on the MAF make a difference?
Your bad idle might be bad/clogged injectors or bad injector harness.
The no power sounds like a clogged cat, I'm no expert but thats what it was on my 84 and 92 Z
it would take like a whole block to get to 35Mph
My 85 Z would stumble and backfire and generally run like shit and it turned out to be the MAF
 
Thats what im thinkin, but it think im going to leave it as is for now, get my blazer runnin since in the snow 4x4>f-body anyways, and it will give me a excellent excuse to pull the motor out ;)
