Apparently, you can't fix stupid in Camp Mustang...

:lol: Any car can be faster than any other car once modded!

Mod both, with the exact same mods, is that fair enough for you? The GT500 is done from the factory, its not going to make much more with any basic mods. Period. Your sticking to the principle that the GT500 is quicker off the showroom floor and that's the end of it. That fine and all, but how many performance vehicles on this website are stock? I'd say not very many.

One of the biggest issues is that GM still builds a sports car. You can't have your pony car destroy your sports car. Period.

Ford no longer produces a true sports car, so the closest you can get to it is the beefed up pony car. Yes, stock for stock, the GT500 is faster in a straight-line than the ZL1. But, the Zl1 wasn't built to be a drag car. I'm still interested in seeing some lap times between the two. The ZL1 definitely has the cards stacked against it on paper, but I'm optimistic the car will perform better than most think.

Since you say to mod it, how about throwing an auto in the GT500? Apples to Apples, since we all know blower cars LOVE auto's. Hell lets throw a couple Liberty's in them both! Facts are facts the Camaro is going to need some work to catch the GT500. Nothing wrong with that, it's just the fact.

Are you serious with this? Do I get to pick the mods? Because if so, I choose that they each get a full roller TH400, then they both get to spin their stock blowers as high as possible. Can't change the blowers or open the motors. The mustang would win because it has a bigger blower. They both have enough motor already. And the 5.8 in the GT500 will take a shitload more boost and make more power, as you will see with your own eyes in the shop you work for in the coming months I'm sure.

This is a silly argument. I think the 1979 Mustang is the fastest because modified they seem to run the best.

You're not making any sense. You could put an automatic in the GT500 and go faster while you yourself said the camaro needs cam, heads, blower, nitrous, whatever.

That makes no sense at all. By that logic, I think a 1987 Mustang is the fastest car out there.

Tree'd me.

That is incorrect. With the tune up there, the LSA based will hold a LOT of power with the factory shortblock. I'm sure on a dyno they could both hold at 900-1000hp if the tune is spot on, but at those power levels both will be a time bomb. I don't see the 5.8L or the LS holding any more power than the other when pushed that hard. Ours is holding fine at 707rwhp, I would assume the 5.8L would be the same.

I'm making perfect sense, you are just too ignorant and narrow minded to look at both sides of the playing field. Yes because most people who buy either of these cars are going to put a full roller TH400 or a liberty in it? Probably not. Let me ask you something, how much hands on experience have you had with the new GT500 or the ZL1? Right...that is what I figured.

For 10k in parts the Livernois ZL1 is a BAD bitch. It drives like stock, gets better mpg than stock, still has all the factory amenities and creature comforts, and it went 9.8 @ 142. Time will tell if we can do the same thing with a GT500 in the same price range but I'm going to say no. We will see.

You mis-understood what I typed, but I should have been more clear. The 5.8 will take much more boost and power than it does STOCK is what I meant, not that it would take more boost and power than the camaro. I agree with what you're saying above.

I'm neither ignorant nor narrow minded. I have both brands of cars, and personally believe the LS architecture rules ...I actually have two of those.

And let me ask you, how much hands on experience do you have with both of them? You haven't even touched a gt500 yet have you?

We'll see what they end up doing with that car...if they offer a similar 2014 or 2015 I may just bother to prove otherwise.

No, we don't have one yet and I haven't had the pleasure of seeing one driving or out at Woodward. I don't know the availability on them, only what I've read in the online articles that have been done about them. I do know the 2300 is maxed out from that factory and that is going to be a huge limiting factor on the power they can make once we open one up. I also own a mod and LSX car. I favor the mod car so don't blame it on the camaro "fanboy". :lol:

I think that most people that are buying either one won't be modding them all that much do to warranty. GT500 FTW!!

With that 10k you come out right around the as tested GT500 price too!

Truthfully, stock for stock or equal mods (assuming capable drivers), the GT500 will likely always win a drag race, and the Zl1 will likely always win on a racetrack. Similar but different cars. Guess it depends on what you want out of it.

In that price range I'd rather pony up and just get a GTR. :lol:

Am I in the minority that thinks a Mustang or Camaro that costs $55k-$65k from the factory seems just ridiculous? Surely they are both 'amazing' vehicles (a bit of sarcasm intended), but seriously? And it's not that I couldn't afford to buy either one...I can.

And for $60k-ish...I'm pretty sure there would be a used Z06 with a power adder/upgrades in my garage. Not trying to stray off topic with that comment, but I just can't digest the initial expense of either vehicle (Camaro/Mustang).

OK, I rubbed it in enough on the phone, I just had to update this thread. I'm done now.

You were right, I was wrong......I'm man enough to admit I was wrong. The traction control on the new Shelby must be really good.

This is the kind of Camaro fan I could have a beer with. We took our lumps as Mustang guys for years when we made terrrible 2V GT's etc and most Camaro owners have been serious assholes in denial about the 5.0 and 5.8 in the face of hard data.

Thanks for being a CAR guy inseatd of a Camaro kool aid drinker!

This kind of back and forth is awesome for eveyone!

How is it "on kill" from the factory? It's a larger displacement engine and has 5lbs more boost. Previous generation GT500s dont exactly fall apart at 650hp.

You need new heads on that ZL1 to compete?

Stock for stock the GT500 is ahead leaps and bounds. However your not going to find much power in the GT500 by basic mods, its "on kill" from the factory. Heads/Cam/Pulley on the ZL1 and it will make the GT500 its bitch.

Until I see numbers for both on the same track, same driver, same day, I don't see how the so called "experts" can make such ridiculous claims.

I'll give the ZL1 credit where credit is due; the suspension and PTM are some great tech. I don't think, however, that's going to be the solution to beat the increased weight and lack of horsepower/torque.

One thing I thought was really interesting; Jalopnik's review mentioned that only 7% of GT500 owners track/drag the car. If that number is close to correct, it makes more sense why the Perf. Pack and Track Pack are options and keep the price down. I'm sure the take rates will be higher than 7%, but people won't use what they order.

The ZL1 has more displacement and less boost

ZL1= 6.2 and 9psi
GT500= 5.8 and 15 psi
