Anyone Else Flood Last Night?

Hey Geoff, sorry for all of the craziness you're going through and it doesn't really help with all of the loses, but I think HP Tuners is actually licensed to the stored connections to vehicles in the connecto. So if the connector is dry, you might have a bit of "savings" there. Not good news... but maybe a little less bad new.

Thank you for the sympathy guys. Basement looks like crap, house stinks. Ugggghhhh. On the good side I am going to be getting a huge check next week. My agent had me set up with a supplemental sewer backup policy with an extra $25k on top of the basic policy max, plus it is set for replacement value, not actual value which if any of you have heard of is a huge deal financially. I never thought it could happen here. Been here 12 years and never seen anything like this.

Lost a Miller Econotig, Lincoln Sp125+ mig, torch set, three sets of vintage speakers (Magnepans MG1C, Paradigm Mini Monitor, and some old Bose that still sounded awesome), two Carver amps got submerged slightly but might make it, furnace, water heater, washer, dryer, small generator, power washer, gas powered mantis, edger, ping pong table, elliptical, treadmill, recumbent bike, smith machine should survive with some bleach, and a vintage Black Knight Pinball that is probably unreplaceable at a reasonable cost. Not to mention all the random tools and power saws that were on a bunch of shelves that got submerged in sewage. A half a dozen unassembled amp kits from DIYaudio.com. Fuck.

Oh, and if anyone is looking for an LS7 cam, I have one that spent 10 hours submerged but still looks fine! Will trade for alcohol!

Are you still with Citizens Geoff? if so start making your list and figuring out cost of replacement on those items so you can submit and get everything in order to make it as quick and painless as possible

Yep, yea, got the list going. It is LONG.

That is terrible, I hope it all goes smoothly for you. Things like this make me glad I live on top of a hill.... even when we lived in Texas I made sure we were on high ground.

My HP Tuners was locked for Greg Powrie's 99 Trans-Am and my 2004 Grand Prix GTP (turned in lease), so that isn't that big of a deal. The big one was the Tunercat, which has an open license for pretty much any GM from that era. I am not ever sure it is replaceable - I got it from Sean at cars before he closed up. Luckily I had an LS1 AEM too, that also spent the night doing the backstroke. Hopefully it survived but I am not getting my hopes up.

Called four companies, no responses. Mostly we just lost stuff. lots of stuff. Just found an LS1 AEM that I forgot I had. It's ruined. My laptop with HP Tuners and Tunercat is scrap.

Tomorrow going to bleach the floors at least and try to make it more manageable. Also going to buy a washer and dryer - whatever my Sargent Guy has in stock!

So sorry to hear about this! I've not been flooded, but years ago
the house was hit by lightning. It was a huge mess.

I did hire a disaster clean up company, that turned out to be a very
good thing. They hired all kinds of people to check, repair, & replace
things I wouldn't have or the insurance company might not have ordered.

What I thought would have been a nightmare turned out to be a blessing
in disguise. When you shop for new replacement, you shop for "as good
or a step above" - that is what the disaster clean up company stated to do.

The company I hired did a LOT more than simply "clean up" the house.
they acted as a type of sub-contractor for the entire project.

Thank you. Yes, those cleanup places are booked to infinity right now. Belfour isn't even putting you on the list, they are just saying "No new customers at this time". I think ultimately, the replacement cost for everything I lost is going to be higher than my coverage. Plus I need to get someone in here to start tearing out the walls and wood paneling right now, because we bleached the floors yesterday, and the smell hasn't abated in the slightest. I might end up doing it myself. It will probably be Wednesday when I finally get an adjuster assigned too, so we'll have to make do until then.

I put a hot water heater in yesterday (got one of the last ones from Lowes), and got a washer and dryer being delivered on Wednesday. The dryer started working this mornig, so I am not sure what is going to happen with that and the insurance. It is a 12 year old Maytag front-loader that spent the night underwater, so as far as I am concerned it is still scrap, even it it happens to be working right now. The washer started then froze up with the door locked and a load of wet towels. That is going to smell great if we ever get it open! The furnace looks like it is down for the count, so that is going to eat up a huge chunk of the insurance.

I am still not even sure what to do with a lot of this stuff. I can't bear to put the Tig on the curb. I am probably going to end up holding onto some of this stuff for a while and see if I can salvage it. Anyone need a slightly used Maytag dryer? I'll give you a good deal!

-Geoff

I will be happy to swing bye and pick that tig up and put it to good use for you, might even have a Biden flag to trade you……lol

LOL! Always interested in some good kindling!

Seriously, though, I may end up having a flood sale some point. A lot of this stuff might still work or be reparable (like the dryer that somehow still works) - especially the welders. Was going to get some input from the expert AKA Moneypit. Looking at a new Miller Syncrowaves that come with a mig spool gun. Seems like a good way to replace both of mine.

-Geoff

Who cares if the dryer works, it was soaked, keep them both and sell the old one. Nobody will miss it.
That AEM would also probably still work, just set it aside though, you've got bigger fish to fry.
Once you get to it, open it up and clean it all, it will need a month or so at least to dry out, again, probably not in your priority list.

I have a dehumidifier you can use if it would help, it's nothing special, but if you need it, we can figure out how to get it to you.

Let me know I’m always looking for welding equipment good or bad.

Just saw a news clip of worthless witless blaming climate change and the republican legislature for the flood damage. Great root- cause analysis!

Yea she is terrible. What I see is the root cause of all the water problems is Detroit, with the negative effects fanning outwards. 50 years of Democrats leading that city. No investment in infrastructure, but they sure used that water department like a cash cow for all those years! I remember when they bought an entire new radio network that combined City, Fire, Police, EMS, and Water department, and paid for it with water department budget. Probably could have fixed some pumps with that money!

When I was house shopping this year, one of my main "must haves" was a full basement. Because my wife is so reasonable, she let me settle for a house on a slab. Right now, I am thankful she's the boss.

Be prepared for round 2 and 3 today. I was in the basement around 2-245pm. Heavy rains, 60 mph winds. Looks like we have a couple hour break now before rain starts again. I’m in the Ann Arbor area.
