Realism? Whose side do you think the Amefican Axle management is going to be on anyways? I can GUARANTEE you they want to bust the union more than they want to make some widget for Orion - so they are going to be helping GM! Not hindering them. Remember - AA loses money at all the US plants, so getting business pulled isn't going to cost them anything, it is only going to help the bottom line. If they got 100% of the US business pulled, there profitability would go through the roof. THat is just the reality of the situation.

Look, I am not union bashing. I am just putting out the facts. This is an example of why the union is killing that auto business in the US. Every competing supplier who makes axles - Dana and Visteon specifically - have a contract that has lowered ALL the wages. How is American Axle supposed to be competetive against those two companies? In the next four years, they are going to lose all the business they have at those plants that are on strike. You guys think Dana won't be bidding lower and getting the business? Wake up! They only way to keep those jobs at all, is to be competetive with labor.

Gettlefinger is an idiot. He keeps pointing out they AA is profitable and can afford the wages. So basically, his plan is to suck them dry until they go into bankruptcy, same as he did to Dana. Then they will get the same contract as Dana. Does that sound like a good plan? All AA is asking to do is skip the bankruptcy part, so they can stay in business.

I worked for Goodyear when they went on strike. That strike helped them close the Collingwood Canada hose plant. The plant didn't have enough volume to be profitable before the strike, then the strike hit and they moved most of the tooling to a plant in Mexico to keep thing going. Not a single piece of tooling that got shipped to Mexico went back to Canada when the strike ended and under a year later Collingwood was closed.
 
I've heard they are taking machines down at AAM and shipping them to Mexico. Sorry UAW guys, but this isn't going to end well for them.

AA made a profit last year and gave some big shot a VERY NICE raise ,so screw the people who make the company run,fuck the middle class how dare any of them (Us) want to take a vacation or send a kid to school ,how dare i want to spend money fixing up my house ,oh wait cant afford a house now.

dont hate the companies here that are moving to nonunion labor, hate the japanese companies that started up without uaw labor and wont let us compete on a level playing field. until the uaw labor is completely gone, we will never seea fair playing ground. Detroit has the best automotive engineering in the world and we'd love to have all the plants closeby, but unfortunately, we are not a right to work state, and until that happens and the companies are competitive, it wont happen. people are getting by just fine down south on non union labor shops, why cant they up here?

there is a rather large company by the name of metaldyne that gm is actually very afraid of, due to the fact that they have proven to gm they can build a vehicles for mere penny's on the dollar... gm uses them for thousands of forged and heat treated parts... im saying if gm needs the parts they will have them made some where else eventually ending the need for am axle. do recal, what happend to flint, production was down, and payment for labor was massively skewed.

It was a G.M. plant being CLOSED at the time and he made it what it is and whatever it will be. He took a segment of the business nobody thought could be profitable in the U.S. anymore and made a run with it.

He is saddled with the UAW contract that was shoved down the throat of many of the larger suppliers by the big 3 as they offloaded union jobs onto the backs of said suppliers.

Prediction: The UAW will ultimately be forced to accept a Delphi like contract
settlement at AA. Whether this is a good or bad thing, I will not state my opinion, it doesn't matter.

If there is one executive in the American Auto industries who deserves whatever salary he decides to take out of a company, it's Dick Dauch, without whom no one employed at AA would have had these jobs since he's owned the place because THEY WOULDN'T EXIST AT ALL.
THAT, is a HARD, COLD FACT.

You are absolutely correct. Dick Dauch has worked his ass off for this company and is not the type of person to take any BS. He is a firm believer in the fact that the dog wags the tail not the other way around.
 
I know there is a very important news article in the paper this weekend. Anyone get the Saturday paper? If not Saturday then Sundays paper will have it.
