Airgunning

Is it legal to kill crows? (Farmington Hills) We have some that I swear to GOD must weigh 8 lbs. They stand about 18" tall including legs/tail etc. Way bigger than our red tailed hawks (we have lots of those & like them). Crows are ballsy bastards. They sit in our trees or on the power lines behind our house (between 20-60') away. Loud as Fk & a general nuisance. I'd really like to take a few of them out as I sit on the deck having a stogie. DNR site says OK with a small game license.

Tin, what do I need brother?

Crows, house sparrows, starlings, and pigeons are all legal. No songbirds though, that could land you in hot water. Aside from crows, the other pests I mentioned are invasive species and have no regulations. The crows are smart, after you take out a few of them, they'll find somewhere else to make noise. I generally recommend something like a RWS 34 or 350 for general purpose, or something of equal capability like a XS25 or XS28M. They really are workhorses, and will last a very long time without needed anything replaced. If you want a good PCP rifle instead of break-barrel, a Benjamin Discovery is very very nice. You can fill it with a hand pump and get about 40 shots between fills...lots of power, too.

Not shooting far at all, probably 30 yards at the most. I actually already have an air rifle that my Dad gave me, its a Benjaman break barrel, model BT1122WNP. Is this air rifle a decent gun or not? I know my dad took out a many a chipmunk with it.

Hell yeah, that's a Benjamin Trail XL, the most powerful break barrel Benjamin you can get. That barrel shroud quiets it down, too. Get a strong scope, because that one has a lot of kick and will destroy a non airgun rated scope after a couple of hundred shots.

Michigan Secrtetary of State signed the bill May 14th, effective immediately. Prior to that, it would've taken effect July 1st. Fire at will boys!

(a) Prohibiting the discharge of a pistol or other firearm within the jurisdiction of that city or charter township.
(b) Prohibiting the discharge of pneumatic guns in any area within the jurisdiction of the city or charter township
that is so heavily populated as to make that conduct dangerous to the inhabitants of that area, except that an ordinance

be discharged, or on or within private property with the permission of the owner or possessor of that property if
conducted with reasonable care to prevent a projectile from crossing the bounds of the property.

This act is ordered to take immediate effect.

As far as crosmans being junk....probably 80% or better of people shooting the sporter class in ISSF/ USA shooting are using a crosman challenger. I'm willing to bet it's as accurate as any shooter reading this. My son started off with one before moving up to an Anschutz 8002 which is obviously a better rifle ( for the extra $2000 over a challenger)

* granted, I'm not talking break barrel guns.

Crosman's non-break barrel stuff is excellent. Their break barrels really aren't terrible, they just need some work to put them in the same league as the better offerings. The best places to start is with a better trigger and a re-lube of the powerplant with Honda 60 moly paste and a generous coat of tar on the mainspring. Their Benjamin pump/brake-barrel/PCP, Sheridan CO2, and Crosman pump/CO2/PCP guns are still made in America.

Oh yeah, now your son can practice 10m in your yard :)

"Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days after the date it is enacted into law."

Section 1 that reclassifies (defines) them from firearm to pneumatic gun takes effect 90 days after signing, the rest of the bill has immediate effect. Just a heads up for those of you who are going to run out and try to get one without registering it LOL Also the way the bill is written without that definition change the old law still applies as it will be deemed a firearm for the purpose of this bill for 90 days.

What's the cheapest i could get something to annoy the rabbits tearing up my yard? I borrowed my brothers 10 pumper last summer and killed one when i hit it in the eye (oops) I was just trying to hit it, not kill it. I just didn't want it digging holes all over my yard lol. It did fixed the problem though, I didn't see any more rabbits the rest of the summer. I've seen a few holes already this year so it might be time to get one of my own to keep sitting by the back window.

don't need anything fancy, only shooting about 25-35 yards. pests include mainly squirrels and rabbits. I might be better off grabbing one used, I don't want to spend hundreds on a pellet gun.

Don't shoot them unless you plan on killing them. That would be like somebody shooting your ear off for the hell of it . I would get something like this: http://flyingdragonairrifles.org/XISICO_XS25.html I have the synthetic stock version, it'll go through 3/4" ply at 30yd.

The REST of the bill is immediate, anything with a written time delay for a certain enacting section IE Section 1 is still bound by that delay. Same reason the CPL Law (qualifications portion) all signed with immediate effect will change June 2nd and the rest December 1st ;)

I'll try to use a good example here, PA 3 (CPL reform) due to votes got immediate effect (Signed on 3/5/15) as well and has multiple enacting sections that step the new process/qualifications in.

For example this one (among others in that piece of legislature) which is the qualifications for CPL in Michigan:

"Enacting section 3. Sections 5b and 5l of 1927 PA 372, MCL 28.425b and 28.425l, as amended by this amendatory act, take effect 90 days after the date this amendatory act is enacted into law."

Here is a link to that law referenced above (note the effective date): http://legislature.mi.gov/(S(ophbnm...bject&objectname=mcl-28-425b-amended&query=on

The June 2nd date is 90 days from 3/5 and its already been amended again with a different enacting section to take effect in July (I believe for the Ex LEO carve out).

Thats why I'm saying portions of the bill DO go into effect immediately HOWEVER the reclassification (Section 1 Contains the definitions) does not, its not quite that easy :) They need time to inform law enforcement etc.

Ahhhhhh. Thanks for the clarification.

I hope you dont think I'm being a smartass; I know I normally am ROFL :) There has to be time for stuff like this to flow through the system, MSP didn't even know about the CPL qualifications change a few weeks ago that start in June, they wont even have new applications ready for months that have the new criteria on them even though they are supposed to be followed WTF MATE?!
