A rant about Belle Tire, Royal Oak

So.... this has been festering in my brain for over a month now and I just need to get it out... this is a little long, so if you dont read, i dont blame you.

On November 14th I had major abdominal surgery... 3" scar below my belly button to prove it too. Needless to say, I couldn't do much for myself for about a week or so. It was hard to move, walk, sit up, talk, and forget about coughing or sneezing... wow, the pain.

Anyways, On November 17th I went out to CVS to get a refill on my pain meds and get some food. I leave CVS and all of the sudden I have no brakes. Thank god it's a 5 speed and I could stop. So, I call a few places just to have them take a look at it, pretty much already knowing that I had a broken hard line just from the amount of brake fluid covering my inner fender well and wheel. However I really couldn't crawl under the car and look because of my stomach.

So, I roll up to Belle Tire on Woodward and 13 mile. Dave I think his name is, I talked to on the phone said, they'd look at it no problem. (he's a tall red headed guy). I explain my situation about my stomach and that I'm an engineer and a mechanic but just can't do it right now due to the pain. I also ask if there is any way that they could make it a little quicker, because if I'm not laying down.. I'm in bad pain. He assures me they will be quick.

2 hours later after sitting in those busted ass uncomfortable chairs... walking around to help the pain... etc... they finally pull my car in. I walk back there as they do... they pull the wheel for me and right away I see it's a broken hard line on the passenger side front. I talk with the tech doing the job, he assures me he can just replace the line real quick bleed the brakes and I'm on my way.

So, I go up front, tell him what I see, he goes back to talk to the tech and says they need another hour or so to get a price and stuff.. which I dont understand. At this point, it's been over 3 hours, I'm in pain, starving and tired of waiting. He said, can we give you a ride home, you look like you are in a lot of pain. I said, can you take me to the Redcoat for a quick bite, and just call me when you figure it all out. No problem he says. So... i go to the redcoat sit down order a burger and some alcohol to go along with the handfull of vicodin i've already eaten.

About half way thru my meal... i get the call. Ok Mr. Moore, the hard line is broken, so... you need a new caliper on that side, and you can't just replace one side of a caliper so you have to do both calipers, and you also need new pads and you might as well replace all the hardlines in the system.. total i have for you is $427!!! I'm shocked and kinda f'd up from the drugs and freak out. Tell him he's crazy and come and get me and put my car back 2gether and don't touch it anymore.

I go back in, I see the tech I talked to earlier. I ask him WTF happened to just the hard line... he says, ya that's all you need, Dave told me you didn't want me to touch it. I say that to Dave and he talks to me like i'm some jerkoff like I dont understand english. This after I tell him I've been working on cars for about 10 years now, and I worked for Bosch, specifically on braking systems for 5 years! I then say some obsenities which I really dont remember and drive off. Go home, talk to a friend of mine who works on cars, go to his house, go buy a $2 brake line, he bends it up and puts it on for me no problem.

WTF is wrong with people? I understand they are a business out to make money... but come on... his reasons were ludicrous... you can replace just one caliper if need be... but mine didn't need replacing. The hard line was a total of about 8" and was $2.00 from any parts store, just needed bent properly.

I just dont understand. I hope his car brakes down somewhere out of state and he has to pay quadruple cost and then he gets ass raped by a silverback gorilla...

That is all....:guns:

Patrick

sounds like the guy was quite a dickbag.

understated for sure... but true.

All the guy had to do was help me out. I was in much pain. He would've done so, I woulda probably gave mad props because of my immobile situation. and gone back to him for tires in the future. Now, I am spreading the word about them.. in hopes that nobody goes to them. Maybe all Belle Tires aren't the same, but I bet that practice of squeezing every dollar from a customer is in effect everywhere and I think it's BS!

Removed my rude comments. PM was sent to the poster.

Boy you really are a class act Patrick. Instead of contacting one of the Mods with the problem, so maybe we could have done something. You post it here. :thumbsups

Oh and good job admitting you were drinking while on your pain meds, saying some obsenities you don't remember and driving home. Again you are a class act Patrick.

None of this really have anything to do with a place of business trying to fleece a customer, does it?

The fact remains had Patrick contacted someone here, maybe something could have been done. How many "Thank You" thread have you seen for Belle Tire?

I'm not saying what they did was right, but we also don't have the other side of the story.

Belle tire's been good to me (Jenga).....but i can't speak for the rest of them.

yea, i have to agree with Trunk.....drinking and driving on pain meds in a car with no brakes is a little messed up.

Plenty, and that's why I would still do business with them, just not that location. But let people make that decision for themselves, by seeing the ratio of good vs bad reviews. Don't stifle the bad ones.

:shake:

The problem has been resolved for a $2.00 brake line and a friend helping out.

I don't see how the almighty MM mods could have assisted him in this instance.

For some issues the MM mods can help, other times they screw it up.
(ie. a certain mustang with a blown engine while in possession of one of the "supporters").

Maybe you should have gone through Ryan or Jenga for a referral at that location.
I did just that at the 13/Woodward location for a friend of mine this past summer, she received great customer service.

Well, the story didn't describe a planned situation, where you might be able to do that.

Because we could have contacted one of the three people that work for Belle Tire here. Maybe they could have gotten the other side of the story. If this was indeed true, they could have had something done.

Maybe this wouldn't happen in the future, but I guess that's not a good idea right?

Agreed. It sounds like this was a business trying to take advantage of someone. Period. A MOD really couldnt do anything here, after the fact.

I don't see anything wrong with giving a bad experience opinion. I've dont it before, and also enjoy knowing where NOT to go.

Well, the story didn't describe a planned situation, where you might be able to do that.

Exactly. I'm sure Jengas' and Murphs' stores do great work, this sounds like a certain location experience only.

Wow.... first of all... I had A SINGLE BEER... and it didn't help. 2nd of all, what does that have to do with my experience at Belle Tire? Matt, why are you so against anything I say at all times? If one of your "boys" woulda said the same thing, I'm sure you would've been all up in arms against whomever they were saying that against.

What could contacting a mod here on a board have done for me while I was out at Belle Tire? How could I have done that?

What other side of the story is there? that is what happened... exactly how it went. I may have been on pain killers, but I wasn't so messed up I couldn't think and act rationally. that was my experience... that is all I was stating. I'm sure it's happened to lots of other customers... they just might not be members of this board.

i will never go to belle tire unless somebody i know is writing up my work order... i bought a set of tires last year from the one at 14 and john r so im not hating on all belle tires but the one in allen park did the same thing to a guy i worked with... they wrote a qoute for over 9 hundred dollars for new tie rod ends, ball joints and a couple other small things while they had it apart... i told him it was an outrageous price since he had a friend that would do the work for 150 plus parts... i called reiko to get a price on parts and he came up just over a hundred... thats $650 saved... id go anywhere but belle tire for service...
