So.... this has been festering in my brain for over a month now and I just need to get it out... this is a little long, so if you dont read, i dont blame you.
On November 14th I had major abdominal surgery... 3" scar below my belly button to prove it too. Needless to say, I couldn't do much for myself for about a week or so. It was hard to move, walk, sit up, talk, and forget about coughing or sneezing... wow, the pain.
Anyways, On November 17th I went out to CVS to get a refill on my pain meds and get some food. I leave CVS and all of the sudden I have no brakes. Thank god it's a 5 speed and I could stop. So, I call a few places just to have them take a look at it, pretty much already knowing that I had a broken hard line just from the amount of brake fluid covering my inner fender well and wheel. However I really couldn't crawl under the car and look because of my stomach.
So, I roll up to Belle Tire on Woodward and 13 mile. Dave I think his name is, I talked to on the phone said, they'd look at it no problem. (he's a tall red headed guy). I explain my situation about my stomach and that I'm an engineer and a mechanic but just can't do it right now due to the pain. I also ask if there is any way that they could make it a little quicker, because if I'm not laying down.. I'm in bad pain. He assures me they will be quick.
2 hours later after sitting in those busted ass uncomfortable chairs... walking around to help the pain... etc... they finally pull my car in. I walk back there as they do... they pull the wheel for me and right away I see it's a broken hard line on the passenger side front. I talk with the tech doing the job, he assures me he can just replace the line real quick bleed the brakes and I'm on my way.
So, I go up front, tell him what I see, he goes back to talk to the tech and says they need another hour or so to get a price and stuff.. which I dont understand. At this point, it's been over 3 hours, I'm in pain, starving and tired of waiting. He said, can we give you a ride home, you look like you are in a lot of pain. I said, can you take me to the Redcoat for a quick bite, and just call me when you figure it all out. No problem he says. So... i go to the redcoat sit down order a burger and some alcohol to go along with the handfull of vicodin i've already eaten.
About half way thru my meal... i get the call. Ok Mr. Moore, the hard line is broken, so... you need a new caliper on that side, and you can't just replace one side of a caliper so you have to do both calipers, and you also need new pads and you might as well replace all the hardlines in the system.. total i have for you is $427!!! I'm shocked and kinda f'd up from the drugs and freak out. Tell him he's crazy and come and get me and put my car back 2gether and don't touch it anymore.
I go back in, I see the tech I talked to earlier. I ask him WTF happened to just the hard line... he says, ya that's all you need, Dave told me you didn't want me to touch it. I say that to Dave and he talks to me like i'm some jerkoff like I dont understand english. This after I tell him I've been working on cars for about 10 years now, and I worked for Bosch, specifically on braking systems for 5 years! I then say some obsenities which I really dont remember and drive off. Go home, talk to a friend of mine who works on cars, go to his house, go buy a $2 brake line, he bends it up and puts it on for me no problem.
WTF is wrong with people? I understand they are a business out to make money... but come on... his reasons were ludicrous... you can replace just one caliper if need be... but mine didn't need replacing. The hard line was a total of about 8" and was $2.00 from any parts store, just needed bent properly.
I just dont understand. I hope his car brakes down somewhere out of state and he has to pay quadruple cost and then he gets ass raped by a silverback gorilla...
That is all....:guns:
