82 306 in an 89 mustang

hey i was wondering if there are any real differences between running a 302 (bored .30 over) from an 82 mustang (flat tappet solid cam) running a comp cams 270H cam with low compression pistons in a 89 mustang with mass air. is there going to be any issues with the computer as far as idling-starting, or should it be okay to run. im running it on a AOD. also will it need something other than 19lb injectors

The 82 engine Is a 28oz balance engine and your 89 has a 50oz balance engine. What does that mean you may ask ??? If you want to Install It In your 89 you will need a 28 oz flywheel and a Distrbutor from a NON HO Ford (I recomend 87-89 F- 150 5.0). You Will need to run a Windsor firing order cam (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 ) the 82 302 uses this firing order ( 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8.)
To be completely honest It will not run as well as a 5.0 H.O. With a B cam and exhaust. What Is the reason you want to swap out your engine ?

If its a 82...It should be a 50 in/oz imbalance...

i dont know, i just think theres some issues with the engine i have now. the original engine i had in the car blew due to loss of oil pressure on the freeway. (oil pump shaft broke) and we replaced it with an engine that was sitting in a barn for a while, its a roller block with like 75k miles on it... and we tore it down and cleaned it, and put it back together again. but we used the heads from the engine that blew, which we suspect has some kind of valve damage to it (the piston i have sitting on my dresser has a ton of circular marks which i presume was the valve hitting the piston) so i think i have damaged heads on that one. but i dont know whether to use that engine that i know little about its condition, or to buy another one.... im trying to find a good one that doesnt leave me broke i need money for college

this engine was set up to run boost but the guy decided to do a modular swap in his mustang. so he never bought the turbo. i think it would be a really good enigne to buy he says it pulls great naturally aspirated, and i have gears and exhaust on my mustang now, so i think it would be nice. the only difference is its a flat tappet motor and i was wondering if there would be issues with the EEC on it

he was running an cobra intake on it with a megasquirt fuel injection system, so i know it will run good with an intake, just wondering about the 89 computer

ok so will there be any diffrences in running it besides using a different oil? the computer wont freak out with the mass air on it?

YOu may or may not have idle issues...all cars are different! And the firing order is irrelvent, these are batch fire injection systems..

i mean i already have idle issues with the engine i have NOW, lol. it likes to stall out after the first cold start. but after it starts a 2nd time it runs good.

Good luck with your project. If the steel distributor gear wipes out the gear on the cam and the engine gernades you will have another mess on your hands.

Remember how great your car ran before you let big head jimmy touch your shit? Been downhill ever since. lol

88 Cali Mustangs and 89 and up are Sequential/MASS AIR systems....They use a BAP, not a MAP sensor....

Not to argue a point, but a Ford Cal engineer told me they were all batch fire? (edit:until OBD2) And he worked in CAlibration when the mustang was in production. But we never asked, nor did he offer year specific.

We put a 302 firing order cam in a mass air car and that car ran perfect. So if you upgrade a speed density car it goes from batch fire injection to MPI...Or am i missunderstanding what you're sayin?

They're not batch fire, they are sefi....I'd also say that maybe even 86 87 is as well, but not sure of that. Maybe you were talking to a GM engineer about the IROC-Z, they were batch fire....
