I have a 5.0 with a e-cam that has a bad popping sound coming from the exhaust when shifting after its warmed up. Does anyone have a shop on the West Side of town that can tune this thing properly? Its driving me nuts!!
Any help would be appreciated.

MAF issue?????

I dont know if it is. Should I try to clean my MAF? I thought it was a tune because it idles rough at start up for about 2 minutes and after that it runs fine for about 15 minutes until it gets hot and then I hear the popping noise.

Is it really nasty inside? Stock or aftermarket MAF? Has any work been done to the car which may have caused this problem?

OMFG! I just took my car to the wash and decreased the engine compartment. After washing it I noticed that every time I gave the car gas it would hesitate and then it would go. After I got home I cleaned the MAF sensor. Now every time I start my car it stalls out. WTF did I do?

What did you clean it with?

Its an older car, you might have got some wires wet, maybe wiggled a connection lose with water pressure. I don't think you are supposed to use regular degreaser on a MAF. I may be wrong with that though.

I cleaned the entire engine with degreaser. I took out the MAF and cleaned it with carb cleaned and a q-tip. Ill have to check all the wires in the morning.

You should probably also remove the distributor cap and blow out the inside of the distributor too...If its got old/er plug wires, they're probably saturated with water.
Cleaning the MAF with a q-tip probably did more harm then good as you've probably got some "strays" on it. They sell a MAF cleaner at murrays type store, I've got some...
Where are you located?

I live in Westland. Ill have to go to murrays tomorrow and get one.

I found a broken wire on my MAF Harness and Im going to fix it tomorrow. I still really need the a good tune. It has new Plugs,MSD Wires, MSD Cap and MSD Coil. But my contacts on my cap are already looking arked out.

this is not good. You may have cracked the glass bead on the wire. Can you borrow a MAF to test with ?

I dont have one. When I took out the MAF it has 2 wires. One looked like it was kind of bent. Will that affect anything?

2 wires ? this is a fox body correct ? snap a picture of the MAf housing so I can see which one you have.

I would use something made especially for this. Unless I'm mistaken, MAF's have a coating on the inside of them to help keep grime from building up on the inside of them. At least the factory units do. Same as factory throttle bodies. I don't think it'll make that big of a deal if you only do it once though.
