Get something with an LS1 and be done with it - Flame away!!!

Not my car. It was a me and a buddy talking about the cars for him. I'm gunning for an LS1 come spring. Or sooner if I can get a sweet deal.

Heres justa few things to think about if you debate bewteen a 4.6 2v and a 5.0 2v...

Cams for a 4.6: at least $600.00 Plus the new springs (about another $200)
cams for a 5.0: New, like $400 for a really good cam, or like $100 for used ones that are everywhere

Exhaust for a 4.6: long tubes-roughly $600, Mid pipe about $250, Catback around $400-500 (so roughly $1,200)

Exhaust for a 5.0: Long tubes for like $275, Mid pipes are like $150, and catbacks are around the $300 mark. ( so roughly $725)

Ignition for a 4.6: For a decent ignition setup for a mod motor, at least $500 investment.

Ignition for a 5.0: Couple Hundred if that.

Well im sure by now your getting the point...I could go on and on, There is just such an enormous market for the 302-351 parts that they cant help but be cheaper....And definatly a 4v cobra setup would be sweet, but if your going for budget project power i would definatly go with a 302 or 351 vs. a 2v mod motor..... I have got about $1,500 in bolt ons on my 4.6 and i still couldnt get lower than a 13.9 or so. Put $1,500 in a 302-351 and you could be in the low 12's.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but 99-04 is not the SN-95. That style is more commonly known as "New Edge."

correct on the 'new edge' but still sn-95, its on the same platform.

the 05's came out fully restyled as the sn-197

The ford termonology is 94-04 sn-95 but they are commonly known as "new edge" cars to diferenciate them

Mike, it's just easier to agree with me. If it's raining out, and I say it's beautiful and sunny, it's just easier to agree on it being beautiful and sunny.

lol..

and on the hole 4.6 5.0 debate.. i have no clue, i like the fact that i have a built 4.6 but having a nice notch like some of the guys here is tempting..

when do you really need an after market ignition for a mod motor??

i know i dont need one and wont for a while..

Your right, you dont necessarily (spelling?) but if you wanted to, the only uprgade i know of is a set of granetalli motorport coil on plug units that sells for like $650, MSD i think also makes some components for the mod motors. I'm not saying its needed, i know people with 700+HP mod motors with factory ignition, i was just stating how much of a difference the price to mod is. thats all.

BTW, as far as i know 94-04 are all SN-95 plat form, 05+ is SN-197

The 99+ are sexy cars but that's out of budge (unless a DAMN cheap GT came along). The Fox is a nice car with a sweet motor but a bit dated as far as looks go. That's why I was asking specifially about the 94-98 body style. By the sounds of it the 94/5 are the best of both worlds. 5.0 w/sn-05 styling! Wish you could put a 99+ clip on a 94+ like you can an LS1 WS6 on an LT1 car

I swear if i could do it all over again, i would do a 351 N/A motor and make some mad power on pump gas, rather than everyone i know with forced indution mod motors that have to run high octane gas or in some cases VP... I Just prefere that older 302-351 mustang exhuast sound more than any other car i have ever heard, Maybe in a few years i will have money to do what i want with my car, until then it'l be a slow good lookin, good sounding, stang like you see everywhere..

do your self a favor, look in the garage sale forum and see how many 302-351 parts you can find vs. mod motor parts....dime a dozen.
