4.6 or 5.0?

Ok the 5.0 is one of the most famous engines in late model sports car history but what is the motor of choice in the 94-98 body style Mustang? How close is the 5.0 in a Fox to a 5.0 in a 94-95? Me and a friend were talking today in class and he said he's looking at a mid 90's mustang. Is it worth it to search out a clean 94/5 car with a 5.0 or get the new technology of the early 4.6 96-98 cars? I've read alot about the early 4.6's being dogs and pretty costly to mod. Also, what are problems with each the 5.0, 4.6, and overall mustang in that year range

Any feedback would be great!

Thanks
Tom

i would definitely go with the 4.6 only if you talking about the DOHC. very smooth and great power. but parts are very costly

96-98 4.6's have the shitty cylinder heads and intake. stay away. way away. 99+ is the only way to go if you're talking 2v.

true story, ive seen some pretty healthy 99+ 4.6's, if your talking power adders there usually pretty close in price, although you can usually gain alot more power out of a 302 based motor, it really depends on what you have/want outta a car.

Overall it would be classified as a STREET CAR. Not a strip/track car
Well the whole reasoning behind the 94-98 body style is inital price to keep the project down on overall cost. So things like heads, turbos, and superchargers are out. It's a stock lower end, ported heads, cam, intake, ignition upgrade, headers w/full exhaust, and NOS sorta car. Well along with a few suspension upgrades and such to match the power.

as far as head cam combos, the 302 based motors are probally the best bang for the buck! so sn-95 cars it is!

Is the sn-95 car the 5.0 94/5? I thought the sn-95 was the entire 94-98 style? Ok if the 79-93 is a "Fox body" then what is the 94-98 and 99-04? Aren't they known as sn-95 and sn-99?

I have had a 98 Gt motor and now have an 03 GT motor.. if i had the choice i would definatly go with a 5.0 motor, replacement and performance parts are a dime a dozen. I have known people to spray stock internaled 302 motors with a 200 shot an only burnt up the plugs....

Best bet would be a 96-98 cobra with a AFM na power pipe or jlt, a 100 shot, long tubes, exhaust and a 4.30 gear.

It would be a better planed project then that but that's good to know. How cheap have you guys seen 94/5 GT's going for lately? 94/5 GT (hardtop), 5spd, 100k miles or below, and mostly stock besides maybe exhaust and a CIA.

Sounds like he needs to buy my car hahaha ill break it down with a lil experience for ya

My car bone stock 4.10s, flomasters (just mufflers), k&n, and short throw went 14.8@92 with the factory plugs, cap, rotor, and wires, with clogged cats.

My 91 Nissan 240sx ran in the mid to high 15s and i have a few videos of it whoopin on some 4.6 5-speed cars on the street also my 00 Linclon LS v-8 took down a blue 4,6 5-speed with exhaust (only mod im sure was on it) on 20"s with 4 people in the car.... definitly stock to stock ill take the 5.0 allll day long as well with the price to mod

You can make over 800whp on stock casting parts (block, heads, crank, cams). 4V is the only way to go...pick up a 99-01 short block, change the rods/pistons and your off...

Good luck with whatever you choose.

well it seems like the majority ofyou are going with just what i expected. I 94/5 5.0 GT.....or a 99+ but that isn't an option on a college budget (Maybe the budget after 5 years of college but that's 1 1/2yrs away)

The new thing now is getting a 4.6 99+ and dropping it in a Fox body!!! Of course I am partial to the early 5.0's cuz I can whip some 4.6 ass like it aint shit!!! :)
