2014 - 15 Lions Discussion Thread

the last td for dallas should have been nullified by a offensive holding penalty. The dallas offensive lineman basically ripped his head off he was holding so bad.

Blaming Stafford for everything just invalidates any points made. Stafford played a decent game, he didnt cost them the game.

I realize you're old, but is English difficult to understand? lol

The thing that's frustrating about the NFL is how they absolutely never, ever get called on their bullshit. Whether it's Joe Buck literally unable to keep the collective NFL dick out of his mouth for one single second of the broadcast, or the studio crew completely ignoring the 800 lb gorilla in the roundtable after, everyone is so terrified of pissing off the golden NFL goose that Goodell and his circus never have to explain, let alone apologize, for egregious or suspicious bullshit. Seriously, the broadcast crews will go from "That call is exactly right" to "you know what, now I see they got it exactly right on the overturn!" in the face of an overturned penalty. It's like they are being texted in the booth by Goodell. At all costs, protect the infallibility of the NFL brand!

I was arguing with a buddy of mine that if the NFL wants to, they'll manipulate outcomes and lie about it. He's arguing that "oh, no way, they can't get away with that and someone would write a book." Give me a break. You think that if everyone in the league office is willing to lie their ass off in the face of overwhelming evidence that they knew, saw and accepted Ray Rice knocking his woman out cold in an elevator (a felony assault by a hulking male against a female) they aren't gonna pull a "nothing to see here" with a couple conveniently placed flags or no calls? Bill Simmons calls Goodell on it and ESPN (the network that paid $100 m a year to broadcast a single wild card game) suspends him from his job. That Texas football market is real big, and Jerry Jones sure shells out a lot of money...

LOL, you guys are too much. Stafford played a very good game.

Sal, PM me where you want you lunch from.

Unfortunately it's going to have to wait a few days. I woke up to a missed phone call from my bank and a wiped out checking account... Gonna be 3-5 days until I have my new card

Dont sweat it Mike.... When ever you got it, it all in good fun.
BUT gotta say, Stafford played his BEST game as a pro Quarterback! His passes were on target and he looked great. They came out strong but the pendulum started swinging the other way when they started getting penalties and they lost momentum and fell apart.... Throw all those controversial calls out the window (both teams got away and got caught with a lot of calls) because bottom line is Stafford / Lions didn't put up enough points to make a diffrence.

But not the first game that Stafford has had a shitty game. 0-16 on the road against teams with a winning record. I'll take my $20 now please. :)

The Lions are good, they arent great. They arent elite. They can beat shitty teams at home. They can beat shitty teams on the road. They can't beat really good teams on the road. The are mediocrity at it's finest.

Make that 0-17 on the road against teams with a winning record. Stafford is not the guy.

Stafford did play well. Certainly can't lay this loss on him.

I don't even understand what the hell happened on that pass interference call/no call. Flag got thrown on an obvious pass interference on 3rd down, I got up to go take a piss, I come back and it's 4th down. What the hell was that about? At that point in the game, that really did change the outcome completely.

The Lions defense played well enough to win. The Lions offense on the other hand, did not. They scored a total of 3 points in the second half. Who is the leader of the offense? Stafford. You most certainly can put the blame on him.

I dont get the babying of Stafford by you and Mike. "Oh he played ok, but he didn't lose it for them." Yeah but he didn't win it either. Good QB's step up and win big games. Stafford has never won a big game, ever.

I guess that's the "better angle" then huh, roger?

I don't disagree that the Lions got some terrible calls that very easily could have changed the out come of that game. But when you're up 20-7, you've got to close. It's ultimately their fault, you cant leave it up to the refs.

Because I watch enough NFL football to know that truly great QBs are very few and far between, NFL fans everywhere do the same exact whining about their quarterbacks, and the QB always makes a convenient scapegoat until the next doomed franchise savior shows up.

Saying Stafford has never won a big game isn't saying much considering he's been the quarterback of a number of very bad teams. He had a good season overall and did what they asked. Less sidearm, less picks, won 11 games, was in a controversial playoff game that could have gone either way. At 26 years old, in the first year under a non-chucklehead coaching regime, I'll take it.

Was kinda funny watching Suh all teared up in the post-game interview....Sad-sad...too-bad Mr. Cheapshot artist....I did watch the highlights and saw the head-hunting hit that another Detroit thug put on a Dallas receiver. If that's the personality that the coach wants his team to project, then it's pretty tough to feel sorry for them after the "bad" call that went against them. Guess that's a bit of poetic justice for Suh even being in the game after his suspension was suddenly overturned....

That bothers me, too. They see a questionable call, so they bring up their "expert" (also a ref, or head of an officiating crew or something), and of course he always says the officials got it right because of some random nuance of the rule or something. The ONLY time I ever saw them disagreeing with obvious bad calls was during the ref strike...so of course, when the non-union officials were working it was OK for them to tear them apart.

As for the cover-ups and wagon-circling, that pisses me off too. Things that are CRIMES get people suspended for a game or two...then the entire league builds them up or explains their behavior away like it's nothing. Then, on the other side, the league also goes WAAAAY overboard, pandering to the group they see as potentially being offended. They are COMPLETELY reactionary, and in such a disingenuous, pandering way. It's so transparent, it's sad.

Everything is done to maximize the dollars earned. If they think they can pick up more of the Spanish speaking community by painting "FUTBOL AMERICANO" on the field, they will. If they think they can pick up more women viewers by making everyone wear pink for a month, they will. If they think they are losing viewers because people think it's too violent, they'll SAY they are working to make it safer. If they think they are losing viewers because people think the players are all abusive, they'll SAY they are going to be more harsh on those kinds of offenses. If they think they are losing viewers because people think they are all taking steroids, they'll SAY they are cracking down on PED's.

I didn't watch the game, but I've seen the pictures and replays, and yeah - there is no question those were both huge non-calls. Obviously the Lions still could have won if they played better, but that is really shady. There is probably more money available if Dallas makes it further in the playoffs than Detroit.

How did Dez Bryant not get flagged for coming on the field with out a helmet to argue a call?

ESPN breaks down the officiating blunder. It also talks about a couple kicker penalties. While it says that statistically speaking the odds of winning went down to 66% after the screwed up call, the one thing I doubt their numbers take into account is the momentum swing that call had. It revitalized the crowd and put the offense in a stressful 4th down.

ESPN also broke down the numbers for the game. Just off the wall stupid stat stuff. You're wrong Justin, it's 18, not 17. At least according to the stats here.

All of this.

I told my wife that I'm gonna have to give her a black eye on general principle if I see one more fucking stupid ad from the NFL with people tearing up not able to talk about domestic abuse. Give me a break. If Roger Goodell thought it would raise the value of his owner's franchises, he'd choke his wife to death on national TV as the halftime show at the Super Bowl.
