2013 Tigers Thread

Get my first upclose look at the team today. Got tickets vs Washington. Not sure who's pitching though.

Nice man. I can't wait for the season to start. I'm gonna go to probably 10 to 15 games again this year. Gotta really enjoy it when you have a team this good, never lasts forever.

On a side note Boesch got signed to a 1 year deal by the Yankees today. Oh well, I couldn't care less about Boesch and we didn't have room for a hacker in our outfield anyhow. We have a lot of potential outfielders who are better than Boesch anyway and not many available spots. Berry probably will hardly play this year aside from pinch running in my opinion. Jackson, Hunter, Dirks, Garcia, Berry, and Castellanos should be all we need.

OK, Drew Smiley SUCKED today. But it's only one game. Tigers lost 12-10. They came back from 7-1 to take a 9-8 lead. The regular starters were gone by the 6th inning. Torii Hunter hit a home run in the first inning and it was all down hill until the 6th inning. Get another look against Houston on Thursday night.

Yeah Smyly wasn't good today, but that's the first rough outing he's had. Him and Porcello have both been very good this spring. Maybe just rotate them at the 5th spot in the rotation or try to pitch them based on if the opposing lineup is either righty or lefty heavy? Porcello is looking good this spring, but I still think you need to have one lefty in your rotation somewhere.

Yeah man I'm thinkin it will probably be Tigers over the Nationals in the series this year and I also think the Royals will be 2nd in the division, lots of young talent on that team. I wish we had some of their prospects.

I'm so hyped for this season to start, enjoy it while it lasts Tigers fans, go to Comerica as many times as you can these next several seasons. We all saw what happened to the Pistons, gotta take advantage when your team is on top of the league. These things always go in cycles.

I was really hoping to catch a couple weekend games over in Pittsburgh this year, but they are playing the Pirates on Thursday and Friday this year. :shake: There is a weekend series in Baltimore that same week and I would love to go to Camden Yards, but I don't think I'm gonna make that kinda drive.

The Tigers play the Rays the last weekend in June and the Marlins the last weekend in September. They play the Braves at Comerica but not in Atlanta. I wouldn't mind making the trip to Baltimore if they were playing the Nationals before or afterward, but they play the Nats two weeks before.

I have a hard time seeing 'Houston' under the AL West. If they were going to move a team, it should have been Milwaukee. A Bud Selig deal because he always wanted the Brewers in the NL. It isn't right.

For the 9th year I'll be watching all their games with Bright House's Extra Innings package and be in Anaheim when they're here on the 19th-21st. Joel

JV certainly wasn't sharp today, but he was still pretty dominating (which is scary for opposing teams). Threw a lot of balls today which led to his short outing, but also some really good looking off speed stuff that had the hitters very off balance. Just wait til he's razor sharp again. All in all I'm glad we were able to finish it out for the W today.

OK, it's hard to say anything difinitive about a team after two games, but closer by committee doesn't look so good. Coke choking away a win against the Twins shouldn't happen. I can see this being a weak spot until they can make a trade. Hopefully Bruce Rondon can get his act together before then. Otherwise look for a closer at the trading deadline.

Coke didn't look great, but Jackson or Dirks should have caught that ball and prevented the walk off. That play those 2 made out there was fucking pathetic.

Yeah your right, it's WAY too early to say anything definitive about the closer situation so I certainly won't be going off the deep end saying we need to make a trade for a closer. Coke wasn't perfect obviously, but the walk by Benoit to start the inning was the real killer.

From ESPN

"Three-time All-Star closer Jose Valverde returns to Tigers, signs minor-league deal"

Not sure what to think about that.

You should think "Great, now I've got a reason to yell at the t.v. in the 9th inning"

Agreed.....

When my buddy texted me that earlier today I was at first very pissed, but once I found out it was a minor league contract for like a month I wasn't nearly as upset. Obviously if he looks just like he did in the end of last year he will probably never touch the field at Comerica. It's not like he's gonna be out there closing the game tomorrow on opening day. We need a full time closer and this is a cheap option to explore would be my best guess at what Dombrowski is thinking. If Valverde looks like he fixed some stuff and can really get out there and do the job then fine give him a shot too.
Now personally if this was my team I would be using Dotel as my closer. He's a good reliever, throws strikes, and has the most closing experience of anyone in our current bullpen.
