2013 Tigers Thread

I'd take Papelbon. I just hope the Phillies will want to unload him. In the mean time, try Smylie as the closer.

I'd gladly take Papelbon, but his contract is pretty massive for the next 3 years, I believe around 13M per. Smyly is a pretty good pitcher, but he's never really experienced many closing situations and the bigger concern is his numbers against rightys. Right handers are hitting .267 against Smyly, his 1.48 WHIP is WAY too high, 9 walks, and he's given up 7 earned runs and 23 hits to rightys. Those are not good numbers at all and the majority of MLB lineups are right handed which is why you hardly ever see a left handed closer. Given that information I don't think Smyly is a good option.

It's just the principle. MLB gives FOX 'exclusive' rights to the time slot. There was five other games to watch and unless you live in one of those cities, you get what FOX wants to give you. The Tigers are on FOX next week too. I refuse to watch FOX unless the Tigers or Lions are on.

Rondon coming back to the team. Evan Reed optioned. How it is not Phil Coke going down is beyond me. I understand Darrin Downs isn't exactly a shut down lefty, and you cannot just always use Smyly so you need another left handed arm, but he has no value.

Over the last two years Coke has gotten destroyed by right handers, and he isn't that effective to use against lefties anymore. He hasn't posted an ERA under four since 2010 and his BB/9 is atrociously high this year.

As for Rondon, in 30 games this year he's posted a 1.52 ERA, 12.1 K/9 and is averaging three strike outs to every walk in almost 30 innings of work. What I am looking for is if he is hiding the ball a bit better and how his change up and slider look. He was having a lot of problems throwing either ones for strikes or getting people out on them. When guys don't have to worry about your secondary stuff and just sit fastball, that's not good.

Cabrera and Scherzer are both 'ON' tonight. Cabrera has 2 home runs and Scherzer has 5 strike outs thru the 4th Inning.

The Tigers might have just lost Infante for the season. Colby Rasmus went into second hard to break up a double play and hit Infante's left leg hard. After taking a couple years to find a replacement for Placido Palanco, I hope that isn't the case.

They've had a hard time getting past the 10-games over .500 mark. Hopefully they'll take 3 from the Sox and put the 10 game thing well behind them.

My questions is since it wasn't a win, does he lose the streak or since it as a decision does it keep going?
