2013 College Football Megathread

Yes, they eventually let you back in, though Michigan fans have never had to experience the embarrassment of being banned by the league from playing in the post season. Kind of like letting criminals back on the street with the thought that they may become normal citizens and not be repeat offenders.

If you say so......:dunno:

If Mary Sue Coleman has anything to do with it, the "Fab Five's" Final Four banners will stay in storage for some time.

During a fireside chat with students Wednesday, the University of Michigan president reaffirmed her position on keeping the removed banners out of the Crisler Center rafters.

“What happened was not good, and I don't think they'll ever go back up. I don't,” Coleman said, according to the Michigan Daily. “Some day, I won't be president anymore, and maybe someone else will have a different view. But I think you have to reflect on the larger meaning and that we want to hold ourselves to a higher standard.”

After the fallout from the Ed Martin Michigan basketball scandal, the university imposed several sanctions on its men's basketball program in 2002.

Among them was the removal of four banners: the 1992 and 1993 Final Four banners, a 1997 NIT championship banner and a 1998 Big Ten Tournament title banner.

In addition, the NCAA forced Michigan to disassociate itself from four players involved in the scandal -- Chris Webber, Maurice Taylor, Robert Traylor and Louis Bullock

Maybe she was drunk again when she made these comments.....;)

Are you really this dense? He didn't play for a year. It wasn't an expected outcome and wasn't driven by a medical problem. That is called a punishment. A second punishment would be that he loses a year of eligibility. One is ruled by the NCAA one is ruled by the local organization. I'm not sure how I can spell this out more clearly, so if you can't figure it out, it just goes to show that the general sentiment about your mental capacity is spot on here.

Sorry, but real punishment is a loss of eligibility. Not burning a redshirt. The only thing I see is you trying to defend Hoke as a disciplinarian. He's not. This is Hagerup's third drinking problem violation. Kick him off the team. Anything less just sends the wrong message. 3rd time, burn a redshirt...

I'm starting to see a pattern here........

Gary Moeller had already been given a second chance before he unfortunately visited a popular Detroit area restaurant in 1995.

If Moeller had any off-field issues, the Michigan brass did an excellent job of keeping them quiet.

He was forced to resign in May 1995 after video tapes were released over a drunken outburst at the then-Excalibur Restaurant on April 28.

Always nice to read...

Michigan State was a few sorry pass-interference penalties at Notre Dame away from likely playing for the BCS title. The team didn't really hit its stride until October, but it got stronger as the year went on and had the Big Ten's single best unit (its defense) and got back to a championship level on defense. A convincing win over Ohio State in the Big Ten title game and the program's first trip to the Rose Bowl Game presented by VIZIO since 1987 are reason enough to award this season the highest possible grade.

I'm disappointed in this. He had a great opportunity to turn that program around and be a legend in his own right, but chose to jump ship early. Had he stayed another two years and got them back into a bowl after the sanctions cleared, I think he'd have every right to leave. Right now is too soon and, IMO, shady.

didn't he turn down a job last year because he wanted to loyal or some shit? Been hanging out with Urban meyer too much.

Dantonio is now the third best paid coach in the B1G. The staff is third best paid in the country(?). That was what I read, but I have doubts...

Dantonio is 5th at least. Meyer, hoke, pelini, Fitzgerald.

"Mark Dantonio has agreed to a new contract with Michigan State that will make him one of the three highest-paid coaches in the Big Ten and place his assistants among the three highest-paid staffs in the conference, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad."

Congrats to Nebraska and MSU. Representing the B1G. Happier about the Nebraska one since it was against SEC. OSU's turn to turn back the SEC.
