At some point (either in here or the basketball thread) was an article linked basically saying that UM fans put Sparty down wrongly in football and Sparty puts UM down wrongly in basketball. Basically reciting the last few years programs for both sports as proof. My only disagreement with that article is that MSU was handed a gift from the Rich Rod era. Rich wasn't recruiting for a B1G style of play at all and his weakest point of recruitment was defense. Look where MSU has prospered in the last few years. UM's basketball program took 20 years to recover from the sanctions. We've fought tooth and nail for every recruit and game to get ourselves back to where we are. In my opinion, the difference is there. MSU now has to adapt in football because Hoke is here or be relegated back to mediocrity where as UM's basketball needs to just continue on it's current path. The real story for both programs will be (in my opinion) 2014. This year for MSU football won't be overly telling unless they suddenly start winning 11 games again. If they have a 8 win season, no one would be overly surprised. UM football also has their own proof to supply, but I find that far more easier to believe then MSU's. In 2014 if MSU has another 8 win season, it's over for them till UM gets rid of Hoke. In Basketball, UM's next season will probably have us ranked, but not like this year. I would say a 20 to 15 ranking with a mid level ranking in the Tourney. In 2014, if our players haven't matured enough and recruits haven't continued to come, then we'll be back to NIT material. Either way, it's fun all around if anything to just see how horribly bad Swift is at his predictions.
