my big fear with Michigan this year is this, he still has the majority of midgets left over from dick rod, how do they fit his schemes ? he has his work cut out for him this year..

They will be running mostly spread imo. Hoke knows what RichRod did blew up in his face and won't be making the same mistake. I think 7-5 will be more like it with MSU going 7-5 as well...OSU...they are so deep that they can probably go 10-2 even without the tat-6.

Im hoping Texas can get a 9 win season. Im really excited for Brian Harison and Manny Diaz both seem like great coaches that will take advantage of Texas' talent. Malcom Brown should be interesting as a true freshman.

I cant wait, In 2-3 years Texas WILL be back in the National championship spot light(pending an O line). Those two backs are gonna be like Rickey Williams and Priest Holmes. Too bad Grey is still in high school lol, I guess him and the Texas recruits did well at a 7 v. 7 in Oregon. Theres a thing on espn about how Gray has great hands for a big running back, perfect for Harsin's 2 back offence for play actions.

Can you base this on something other than being a UM slappy?

I base that on your schedule and who you have returning. Other than the RBs, Cousins and Worthy...I don't see too much to think 9-3. As someone up top said...you are usually wrong, just like the CMU game and the Alabama bowl game score. Wiscy, OSU, Nebraska, ND and a wild card(Northwestern?) will be your loses. Maybe even U of M if they can get a defense going by Oct. 15th.

I have to hit a score perfect to be right? I thought Alabama would win.

As for this year, UM has a better chance to beat SDSU than MSU has to lose to Northwestern or some wild card. And I actually think they have a better than even chance vs Wisconsin and OSU. The Nebraska game comes down to how well Taylor Martinez plays (if he plays). The toughest game on the schedule is Wisconsin, but they play that game in E. Lansing. While OSU doesn't worry me as much, the ND game will be tight, as will the games against OSU, Neb, Wisc and Iowa. The only weak link is the OL.

Of course, practice hasn't started, no one's been hurt and the season is a couple months away...

September 3 Western Michigan Win
September 10 Notre Dame Win
September 17 Eastern Michigan Win
September 24 San Diego State Win
October 1 Minnesota TBA Win
October 8 @ Northwestern Win
October 15 @ Michigan State Win
October 29 Purdue Loss
November 5 @ Iowa Loss
November 12 @ Illinois Win
November 19 Nebraska Loss
November 26 Ohio State Win

9-3 and off to a bowl game

How long does Hoke get to turn around the program though?

Most people say 4-5 years with a new coach bringing in his type of recruits/system. If Hoke and had taken over right after Carr left, I would say anything less than 9 wins would unacceptable. But now he has RichRod tweeners and system to deal with. Let’s face it... last year’s recruiting class was the recruiting left overs because Brandon didn't hire someone right away after RichRod got fired. This class will be Hoke's first decent class that he will have to start building his type of program with. I think once Denard is gone, they will be a 100% pro-style offense. Devin can fit the mold of any system you want him to. The same, IMO, can't be said for Denard. The defense will be better if the coaching and lack of experience was the only problem. With Johnson and Avery getting a year of experience and college weight lifting underneath their belt, that has to be an improvement right there to the secondary. Troy Woolfolk will be back as well (expecting a huge year). The DL should be a decent one this year. Martin, VanBergen, Campbell (if he starts to play) and Roh (at 270lbs now) should be a top DL in the Big Ten. The only downfall is the LBers (outside of Demens) and overall depth. While I say 7-5, a few key injuries could put them in the 5 win column. If they say healthy can get coached up quickly, 8-9 wins with their schedule isn’t out of the question. I also say 7 wins for you Swiftster is because MSU schedule is tougher this year than U of M imo. People don’t seem to understand with Wisconsin getting Russell Wilson, they may indeed be a shoe-in for top of the Big Ten. Anyways, I am done rambling. I can’t wait until September!

He should only get 3 years, just like RichRod.

A lot of administrators seem to think building a program is a two year to three year program. What does Brandon REALLY think after shitcanning RichRod after year three and two true recruiting classes. If Hoke is 7-5 after his third year using many of RR's players, does he get the axe? And if he doesn't play RR's guys, how much depth will they have. You can play one or two freshmen and get away with it. But you aren't winning if half your team is freshmen & sophmores. This is why I get a laugh regarding 9-3...Everyone acts like all of RichRod's coachs sucked ass. I doubt that was the case.

And what happens when ND, MSU and OSU kick UM's ass again? What if they go 4-8 or 5-7? We all saw how quickly RichRod's honeymoon came to an end. If for some reason they go 4-8, even because of injuries, the fair weather fans will revolt. We all saw how fragile Shoelace is. Who's playing QB when he goes down.

Hoke's leash will be determined by 3 things
#1. Overall improvement
#2. The defense
#3. Wins over MSU/OSU
Those three variables create an impossible scenario to predict.... If he's 7-5 in his third year, but they beat MSU and OSU, he'll get another year. Of course, that's unlikely because if they are good enough to beat MSU and OSU, they'll win more than 7 games.

RR's record improved every year. But he lost to MSU and OSU. And the defense got progressively, embarassingly worse, every year. Giving up 55 points to Mississippi State is unacceptable.
