Yep. Swiftard has yet to ackknowledge it. Probably because he knows lil bros short stint has come to an end.

Certainly not in the next year or two. The DC only has one Mike Martin. The rest of the defense blows donkey balls no matter who the DC is.

I still think they are good athletes and just had poor coaching. Most of the recruits were of higher caliber then MSU's team. The only difference is that you guys have good defensive coaches and we didn't have shit. That has changed now :)

The reason there is only 11 seniors is that the rest of that class left. What few players UM signs will be competing for starting jobs because the rest of the defense is that bad.

You can say the defense is bad, but that doesn't mean there aren't players there. Suh was on Nebraska's team under Calahan. I didn't know who he was then. i learned who he was real fast when Pelini got there, although still long before Heisman talk started. There are a long list of players that were playing under Calahan on a shitty defense that were on last year's dominant Nebraska defense. It didn't happen in one year, but it happened fast. 2007 under Calahan Nebraska was 112 in total defense. 2008 under Pelini, 56! From 112 to 56 in one year! From 56 to 7 the following year! When Michigan brings in a defensive coordinator of the caliber they did, a similar turn around is not out of the question.

Doing a little research on the 07-08 turn around.
All 4 starters on the defensive line were the same.
LBs, one was a RB in 07, one started a few games, one was a back up, all were already on the team though
Nebraska's flex safety linebacker for 08 was a sophomore, so he was on the team already but didn't really play much in 07, not that Calahan's scheme utilized such a player at all, that is a pretty unique scheme by the Pelinis
DBs: one senior corner, Amukamara whose name most fans know by now was a first year starter for 08 replacing a solid guy, although not a guy who was a first round pick. One safety was a returning starter. The other had 29 tackles in 07, so he saw the field but wasn't a starter.

So, you can cut your defensive rank in half playing mostly the same guys you did before. You MSU guys talk a lot of shit about Michigan's defensive potential, I don't know what more I could possibly do to show how a defense can improve just through a coaching change.

You will see a bunch from that class were also red shirted.

You seem to forget that our number one cb was hurt in spring practice, hence why he's getting a 5th year. We lost Floyd midway through the year.

Come talk to me about the defense when we see what it can do with seasoned players starting in the secondary.

Sounds like you're making excuses. I'm not going to judge the kid on one game. Now if he's a bust like William Campbell, we'll discuss it.

You make the comment mike Martin is our best player on defense. He is the reason why Campbell hasn't played. Your going to start him over Martin? He's going to sit and wait his turn.

Actually, unlike the SEC, the BIG Ten is limited 85 total (in otherwords, what the scholarship limit is). The exception to the 25 is on who left team. Illinois lost 3 to the draft so they have 26 right now. No one else is close to 25 because of the 85 limit. The Big Ten frowns on?

I think you need to go on the NCAA website and get up to date on this subject.

You using a ranking that has Demetrius hart ranked at 118, lawerence Thomas as 130, Brent Calloway 132, and stephon truitt as 120. How about something a little more real?

Martin is not the reason Campbell hasn't seen the field. Campbell sucks is the reason he hasn't seen the field. If you didn't notice, they actually switched him to OL at the end of the year.

Maybe the new staff can get through to him. He isn't known for having the best drive or work ethic, but it would be great if the old DL coach Hoke could get him going and back on the defensive side.

I'm with Brad, last year's terrible D was a combination of inexperience and coaching. I think that in their 2 deep in their secondary they had 7 true freshman...that's insane. Guys like Greg Roh, who I thought was gonna be huge, got moved around in the new defense to the point where he told the coaches at one point "move me back to D end or I'm transferring". Guys look slow and miss tackles when they are out of position and undisciplined, which is a direct result of inexperience and bad coaching.

I don't expect Michigan to be a top 20 D next year...but I would see them somewhere in the top 50 at least and only getting better.

I'm thinking of changing my settings back to 10 posts per page to get the fat hairy guy in his underwear somewhere I don't have to see him any more.

all these comments sound good right now......the biggest problem um had is now gone............i'd think the program will get much better this year.
