2007 Ford Edge, needs engine or at least water pump, what's it worth?

Friend of my wife's has an 07 Edge, it's in decent condition other than needing a water pump. Dealer is giving her the "spiel" it may need an engine, $8K or so. What's it worth in said condition? What does she put it on craigslist for???

2007 Ford Edge, 130K miles.

I figure someone would pick it up and put a water pump or $1000 salvage motor in it and make a few bucks.


What's MM's advice?

It's not worth $3K to a shadetree and let them put $500-1500 into it and flip it for $1-3K profit? I guess that profit $$ keeps getting smaller if you consider labor.

Details........

2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD. Leather heated seats. Brand new front brakes less than 2 weeks ago (full rotor replacement). And otherwise in good condition. There is some rust on front lip of the hood (as is wont to happen with Ford vehicles) – measures about 2x4 inches maybe. Fuel tank issue that prompted recall was resolved yesterday at dealership as well.

As of right now, the car can be driven but will likely overheat within 20 minutes. On my short drive home from the dealership yesterday after they had supposedly topped off coolant and water, the temp gauge started to creep past the midway point as I was turning on to my street.

"Creme Brûlée" is the official color I believe. Beige leather interior. Also has all weather floor mats- the all rubber/plastic- specifically for edge- front and back.

pictures sell cars not words, also remove the part about what might be wrong, just say runs hot, some dickbag could buy it put a waterpump on it and if that doesnt fix it sue you because you lied
